Pooping / passing gass while pushing

Hi all, my baby is due early June with a possible early induction. I want to have a vaginal birth but I'm more worried about the pooping and farting and the smells while pushing than the pain! Is there anything I can do to reduce this? Anything I should eat or avoid eating before and when?

Use the washroom lots During labour ! If there’s nothing to release it can’t come out haha. Also, going to the washroom lots can make more space for baby as the birth canal can be impeded if we are holding onto anything. Don’t worry though girl ! That will be the last of your worries in the moment. Also note that if you get an epidural, you might not be able to go use the washroom if your legs get wobbly/numb❤️

Trust me when I say you will not care even in the slightest when you’re giving birth 😅🥰

Honestly, in the moment, you will not care in the slightest. I probably did shit myself, but I don’t remember and my partner has never mentioned it 😂

Please don’t stress about this, they don’t care! And you also won’t when you are in pain trying to push a baby out! With my first I’m pretty sure I pooed but had epidural and they quickly changed underneath me but I didn’t think at the time.. With my second I had water birth so I know I didn’t. But honestly they see it all so no stress and good luck🫶🏼

It's TOTALLY normal. I remember feeling mortified and the nurse was so comforting about it. I just kept apologizing and she was just like "girl stop, it's not gonna be the last time i have to clean up after someone" and just reassured me how normal it was lol still was embarrassing, but hey you're bringing life into this world they can take a little s**t before it happens! 🫶🏼

I had a water birth and the midwife was scooping the poo out with a net 😂 They are very good at helping with your dignity and hygiene. Also you won’t care!!!!

I went to the toilet before pushing with both my boys, no poo during labour either time. I promise though, when it’s all happening, it will be absolutely the last thing you care about. And if you do poo, you know you’re pushing right! Midwives have seen it all a thousand times, even if you do notice and feel embarrassed, they’ll instantly forget when they move onto the next mumma giving birth and doing exactly the same!

If your digestion is regular and you’re poo’ing every day, when your body is getting ready for labor it will get rid of most waste (some even have diarrhea that clears everything out in the day(s) before). Any tiny amount that does come out during labor is usually because your baby is squeezing it out when it comes through the birth canal and that means they’re almost here and like everyone else says, you won’t give a sh@t about your sh@t at that point! 😂 Your providers have seen it all and will quickly and discreetly wipe it away. Someone else correct me if I’m wrong, but passing gas is not generally a thing during labor. A tiny bit of poo isn’t worth having your abdominal wall cut through to get your baby out! Go vaginal if you can!!

Honestly I don’t even know if I did or not and never will. And even if I did when your baby is literally stretching your vagina with its head and the ring of fire doesn’t even come close to cutting it for how that feels!!! You couldn’t even give two 💩 if you did. Also talk to a midwife don’t care what so ever!!

I asked the midwife mid pushing if I had done a poo 🤣 I hadn’t I might add

The start of my labour I was sick lots and had diarrhoea think my body was getting ready. I didn’t even think about it when I was pushing! But I didn’t poo during the pushing think my body was empty 😂😂 honestly you won’t even think about all you’ll be thinking is get this baby out 😂😂

@Zoe hehehe thank youuu ♥️

You don’t care once you’re pushing Believe me! I had a water birth with my oldest and I 💩 myself but it was literally a floater, I mean it floated straight past my face so there was so hiding that🤣🤣 but still I couldn’t care less that 2 midwives my mam and partner had seen my shit lol 😂 most of the time you’ll not notice and they get rid of it, they won’t tell you

@Alisha hahahah

I asked if I pooped and apparently didn’t so not everyone else does (or will tell you) 😂

It's like a 50-50 chance you'll poop. I've given birth twice and didn't poop with either. As soon as I start labour my body naturally evacuates everything. The midwives don't care though, they've seen it all before, they'll wipe you up and get rid before you or your birthing partner even notice. And when you're in the throws of pushing you honestly won't care or notice. You just want that baby out.

I was quite surprised I didn’t actually! I did feel like I was non stop peeing myself though (they kept saying it was my waters but I’m sure it was pee).

With my epidural, I had no control over my farts, like even before pushing, they just kept coming uncontrollably. I was so embarrassed at first and kept apologizing but after a while it was just becoming hilarious lol I’m sure you won’t be thinking about it in the slightest when it comes time to push though, by then it wasn’t even a blip on my radar.

I was also nervous about this as I'm very shy about it, but let me tell you. When you're giving birth, especially unmedicated, You. Are. Not. You. Anymore. Your personality dissolves and all you're focussed on is getting over labour and meeting your little human x

The first time I had diarrhea my entire pregnancy I was constipated… And of course we’re all constipated after you give birth…… But, at the very end of labor, it was just slipping out. Lmao. 😂 Absolutely the least of my concerns.
