It depends on any complications. For example, if it's a low risk pregnancy, you could book it anywhere after 37wks. But if you're under any consultant, they will book sections post 39 weeks, allowing the possibility of a natural birth. Mainly as they want baby to need as little medical attention as possible. So it's when baby's lungs are fully mature, so it reduces the risk of amniotic fluid being stuck in their lungs, when the organs all know how to work properly etc.
Mine has been booked for 39 weeks but consultant has said that depending on my placenta, it could be 38 weeks x
Mine is booked for 39 + 3 because they don't do elective sections on a Saturday Sunday or Monday apparently. I did ask to have it done between 38 and 39 weeks but they said it was policy to be done after 39 weeks. I don't know if that's every hospital.
If there is no other need - medical or mental health, it’s usually from 39 weeks. If it’s for mental health reasons, they will sometimes do it from 38 weeks but don’t like to do it before 38 weeks unless it’s medically necessary to get baby out earlier :) x
I’m booked for 39 weeks but if there are no additional complications the can leave you up to 41
