Daycare troubles

Is anyone else having trouble finding and setting up affordable daycare? It seems everyone I try is booked or way over budget. Anyone have any suggestions?

do you have anyone you know personally through references to watch them?

@Emily unfortunately I have none. And no family in the area either. I have been cold calling for months

Me. Too. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 Everytime I get online to look I end up feeling frustrated and defeated

Unfortunately, you either have to get on waitlists or keep checking… it’s so hard to get in these lists and they’re usually maxed out… check with your local school districts they usually have programs too

Yes. 😔 Baby due end of August/early September 2024 and most have waitlists going into June 2025. Even had one that the waitlist was over 2 years. 😩

Care.com, asking coworkers for recs, nanny shares, ask moms at playgrounds or libraries. That’s how we found out my neighbor homeschools so that was really a find.

I work close to downtown Annapolis at Play and Learn. It’s still up in price but also the cheapest around the area. How old is your little one?

@Ashley due in Sept and will be 3 mo at the time we need care starting in December.

@Connie I’m due in September as well. Are you a state employee? Also we accept vouchers and you can easily apply for them. But depending on if you’re a state employee will have you pay less than a regular employee. So if you’re name working for the state it would be 464 a week. If you want I can give you the number and you can call and schedule a tour if you like and put you on the list. So you’ll have a spot for when your baby is due. You can message me if you’d like

@Ashley unfortunately I'm not a state employee. Would that change things?

@Connie nope, it’ll just make you pay the full price. State employees get a little discount with the center, so you’ll pay $464 a week. But you can still apply for daycare vouchers even if you’re not a state employee

@Ashley thwbk you so much. Is there a website I can visit to schedule a tour?

I give yall working Mamas mad props. I know it’s not possible in this economy to usually survive off one income but with how hard it is to find childcare idk how yall do it. Im disabled and can’t work but I guess in this case it’s a blessing I can stay home with my baby and not have to worry about childcare. Wishing yall luck

@Connie search up play and learn Annapolis. Or you can call and talk to Charles. He’s the director and my boss. Amazing person! 410-263-4039. You can say I referred you to the center too.

@Paige Marie I can’t wait to be on maternity leave so I can be home with all my kids. I work in childcare so it helps because I get discounts

@Ashley aw I bet! That does come in handy. I’ve been a nanny for many years part time but had to give it up due to my disability getting worse with the second trimester. I miss it daily! Childcare is hard work but is so rewarding

@Paige Marie I’m sorry that happened to you during your pregnancy. Childcare is definitely touch but I love it

@Paige Marie Dude forreal. I mean I’m a SAHM because we can’t afford $1400-$2000 a month on child care for our 2 year old. We don’t qualify for ERDC either. But I’m in school full time and I’m pregnant and I have days where I am just absolutely desperate. We just don’t have the resources :(

@Jessa that’s insane! Yeah childcare is soo expensive and so hard to get into now days. I’m lucky in the fact that my husband is able to provide for us on his income alone but I know it would definitely be tight if we weren’t military and had base housing. We are lucky I can stay home with our son when he comes because it would definitely be insanely expensive. This economy is absolutely crazy in all aspects right now.

It's a mess all around. My husband who is active duty was told we wouldn't get approved for on base infant care because dual military families are first priority and maybe we'd be lucky for on base care when he's two or three. But tell ya what were already on the waiting list which is borderline stupid because we are due to relocate end of next year to who knows where 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

@Krizia oh yeah the childcare on base is booked out super far just like all the daycares off base! People here will legitimately rent out their spots when they go on vacation because they’re so coveted.

@Paige Marie dang. I was hoping it was a fort Campbell issue but guess not! 😅

@Krizia oh no girl we are AF and it’s insane here too!

Waitlist are like year long 😭 especially for infants. There’s families that are putting their babies on waitlist before they even conceive lol. Thank god I work at an early learning center so my baby has been on the list since I found out I was pregnant and staff gets priority 😭
