I mix the rusks in a bottle of milk

You shouldn't add anything to bottles, it's a massive choking risk.

Add to milk and spoon feed or give rusk as a biscuit

Avatar

I wouldn't add them to bottles due to the choking risk, plus they're very sugary.

Avatar

Definitely not! It’s a huge choking risk to mix any food into a bottle. And also just not necessary or needed. Rusks are full of sugar x

Avatar

how do you do it x

Avatar

thank you x

Avatar

How is it a chocking risk if it’s going to be softened up and mixed with the milk the same as it is when it’s mixed in a bowl
Wouldn’t it be just a bit thinner because there is more milk to mix to it

Avatar

@Bethan get a jub and put the rusks in it and crush it until its powered then put the milk in it and I normally warm up the bottle

Avatar

No I wouldn’t mix in a bottle

I would give as a biscuit to eat or mix it to milk/ water and give on a spoon x

It is an old pratice and is no longer recommended. Nothing should be put in a bottle except for milk. Rusks get softened up, but it will thicken the milk, making it a choking risk. Also it is a myth that it helps with baby sleep. Giving solids to baby too young can cause lots of issues when they grow up like allergies, obesity and digestive issues. Rusks have no nutritional value whatsoever. If baby is old enough for solids, just give them in a spoon, but best to start baby led weaning or veg puree than starting with something full of sugar.

I gave my baby the whole rusk in biscuit form and just let her play with it and suck on it, she loved it x

Avatar

thank you xx

Avatar

he’s 7 months old next week so has been on solids a while now

Avatar

i have added the last bit in as i noticed. But best to just give it to him to suck if you insist on giving it. As I said, there are better and healthier alternatives.

Avatar

Definitely wouldn't add to bottle for fear of choking. I'm pretty sure even the box says not to do so but I could be imagining that lol as to the whole sugar/health debate part, everything in moderation in my opinion and you can always get the reduced sugar versions so not as bad

Avatar

Curious as to why anyone would want to do this? For what purpose?
Babies can drink milk and then eat food. Not sure why you’d want to combine the two.
Food at this age is just for exploring and learning so there’s no developmental advantages to putting rusks in a bottle and there are no nutritional advantages.

Avatar

I’ve just heard a lot of people do it or talk about it and just wanted to look for other opinions on it, I have t said I’ve been wanting to try it just curious to opinions on the topic

Avatar

Rusks have got quite a bit of sugar in them so I would avoid totally.

Avatar

I think one of the issues aside from the sugar is that it could put them off of plain milk

Avatar

You really don’t need to do this, particularly if your baby is on solids already!

Avatar

Mix in a bowl with milk so it’s like a porridge consistency and spoon feed. Never put it in a bottle

Avatar

Huge no, like others have said a choking risk and they’re loaded with sugar. I wouldn’t give rusks at all, much better things to give

Avatar

Rusks are full of sugar .. I’d look for something else.

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Took 9 week old to a family party where there was loud music and she was next to the speaker for most of the time (about 3 hours). She slept through most of it. Do you think she has hearing loss from this?

Freaking out right now :(

Struggling in the 4 month regression

How are people getting out of the 4 month regression? I’ve been looking it up and it says I need to be trying to put him down drowsy but awake but this does not work for my LO. Every time we do this he ends up being wide awake and after almost an hour of trying we have to contact nap/rock to sleep. I want to avoid rocking to sleep because now when he wakes up in the night he needs to be rocked back to sleep which he never used to need.

Nights are constantly broken because we are up 2-3 times to rock him back to sleep. Please give me your tips on how to survive this and how to get out of this!! Constantly feel like I’m failing and doing something wrong
