Maternity leave (America 🙄)

Anyone know how much time you’re gonna get with baby before heading back to work? How are you coping with the idea of that time? If you’re a working mom in the US I already know 9 times out of 10 it’s not enough. I’m hoping to have atleast 9 weeks paid. 6 for vaginal delivery and an additional 3 my job will pay for if the doctor sees fit. Praying my doctor follows my lead there on whether I’m ready to return. Still it doesn’t feel anywhere near long enough and I WFH 3 days a week. I can’t imagine being in an office full time 😢.

I don’t know how mamas do it. Breaks my heart … i hope you get 9 and more!!

Thankfully I work in the school district so I get all of summer to enjoy time with my baby and my oldest. I still don’t think it’s enough time but I’m only getting 6 weeks of unpaid maternity leave.

I exhausted my annual leave up until my due date and just hoping she’ll be here by then so maternity can kick in. My job offers 12 weeks paid (6 for recovery and 6 for bonding w baby). I swear I hate seeing others who don’t get this option.

Well...be thankful you get paid maternity leave! But, you can technically take as long as your doctor sees fit. A law passed last year PWFA that states that a woman is allowed to take time to recover from birth and is covered by any employer with 15 or more employees. Which is even better than FMLA. So if your doctor is willing to write you a letter for how many weeks you'd like to be off then your company has to legally protect your job for you until the time your doctor clears you to return to work.

I am very fortunate to get 8 weeks paid for bonding, but I don't qualify for any additional time for recovery as we adopted. I'm considering seeing if I can use a few weeks of PTO.

@Rosie congratulations on your adoption 💜
