Autism

I recently saw an Instagram reel where a lady posted the tell tale signs of autism in her 4 year old when they were 12 months old. This has now scared me as some of the points she made my baby does, however I just thought these were things 12 month olds do. They were : - - hand flapping when happy or upset - having an aversion to clothes being on, sometimes pulling at them - sitting in the W position - loves the oven/microwave/anything with lights and sounds - fixated on every day objects such as wooden spoons, keys, tv remotes Do your 12 month olds also do these things? Are they just normal 12 month old behaviours or something more?

I found those reels on Instagram really upsetting and unhelpful a lot of the things mention babies do

Mine does all of these, I’m not worried at all personally

I think all those things are normal for babies! Mine does these things. I really wouldn't worry about this kind of rubbish on Instagram. I mean, think about it, wouldn't you be more worried if your baby wasn't interested in things with lights and noise, every day objects etc..? I think it is too early for any kind of autism diagnosis, exactly for the reason that all babies of this age do these kinds of things.

These are all normal for a 12 month old they can't diagnose autism until over the age of 2 at the very earliest as the majority of babies do these things and therefore most of the babies in world would be told their autistic if they were to be diagnosed based on 12 month behaviours. I honestly wouldn't worry at this point

I’d say this is all standard behaviour for a 12 month old

All very very normal! Just one thing, baby physio told me to correct babies sitting in W position as it pushes their hips into unnatural position which can cause issues later

All babies love lights. That’s why they put them on the vtec toys

I’m sure all babies do all the above, what a load of nonsense- I’m a teacher and that is definitely not any of the signs for autism, you’ll mainly see it in lack of eye contact sometimes there’s other things not this, what a load on nonsense
