Hi, I found out today that I have rhesus negative blood and I’m quite anxious about it. What everyone’s experiences like with having rhesus negative blood ?

I’m rhesus negative. Nothing really different apart from you have the anti d injection

Same here. No issues except last pregnancy when my mums dog jumped on me so I had to go for an extra injection 😂

Literally no difference apart from the fact you have to have an anti-D injection at about 20 ish weeks. If you have a fall or knock your belly as well you have to have another injection!

I had to have an extra blood test and the worked out whether I’d need anti d or not x

Things have changed the last couple of years and at the 12 week scan they can offer you a DNA test, taking your blood and can tell if baby is R-Neg or not. If they are, you don't need any of the Anti D injections. I'm O-, and had some extra jabs in my last pregnancy because they couldn't do this test, but it turned out my daughter was Positive anyway, so would always have been needed. The anti d is the only difference really. Don't worry xx

Don’t worry lovely. I’m O- and I’ve had 2 babies just fine. What is your partners blood type? As if he is also rhesus negative there is no concern at all. If he is positive then the only difference will be the anti D injection. If you knock your belly or have any unexplained bleeding you’ll need an extra shot. I’m sure there is a blood test you can have now showing if your baby is same rhesus as you- which if they are, no need for the injections!

@LM oh I didn’t know this! I found the injections so painful and was so worried after the dog incident and turned out my little one is negative anyway 😂 Is it offered as standard do you know?

@Tori omg the anti d injection hurt so bad😅😅

@Tori I'm Hertfordshire and yes, offered as standard here. Worth asking at your 12 week or midwife appointment xx

@Jess so painful 😣

@LM great thank you! I’ll definitely ask 😊

@Jess brilliant. Thank you for sharing I’ll definitely ask my midwife

I asked today at my midwife appointment and she’d never heard of it! She said it would be an injection at 28 weeks and she thought perhaps it was something only offered privately. Maybe our trust doesn’t do it yet
