I never heard of pre-k costing any money at all... When my daughter started there was no cost. That's new
It's free if you qualify, I wasn't aware of her circumstances but provided the link where she could look to determine if she qualified for free pre-k. I know that there are limited spots so I think they prioritize based on language barriers if they are ESL.

Look for Kipp schools. It’s free if you qualify. They even have an afterschool program if you need to pickup a little later, but they charge per hour and it’s still affordable.
