Feeding Solids

We were told the earliest we can try feeding baby solids is at four months, but I don’t know if she’s ready for that. Has anyone else decided to try?

As far as I know the standard recommendation is 6 months. So long as they are showing signs of being ready such as being interested in your food. Always listen to your baby and follow your instincts. No one piece of advise is going to be true for all babies.

We started food at 4 months recommended by her pediatrician because she was so interested! We started strictly purées and at 6 months slowly introduced BLW.

I think I started at 5 months with oatmeal made with formula. It’s always different for each child.

@Allison the pediatrician mentioned it today too so that’s why I felt the need to ask other moms! 😊

@Kenzie if you and baby feel ready then go for it!! It’s so fun! You got it mama, always trust yourself🩷

I found the site solidstarts.com very useful. They talk about readiness to start solid food. "Most healthy, full-term, typically developing babies are ready to start eating solid food around 6 months old. Before you dive in, however, make sure your baby has reached these critical developmental milestones: Sitting: Baby is able to sit with minimal support Head Control: Baby is able to hold head upright and steady while seated for duration of meal (about 15 minutes) Reach & Grab: Baby is able to pick up objects while seated and easily bring them to the mouth Interest: Baby intently watches you eat, mouths for food, or leans forward for it." We also used the Solid Starts app for a lot of helpful guidance it’s so great.

Our pediatrician recommended it for our daughter as well to help put on more weight, but after doing more research we don’t think she’s ready. She can hold her head up, but she doesn’t seem interested in food past watching us eat. I’m just going to up her milk intake and let her decide when she’s ready ☺️

my pediatrician said that starting before 6 months can actually cause long-term digestive issues so we’re waiting! :)

I waited until 6 months with my first but she just played with it and wasn’t interested in food until 8 months when she got her teeth.
