Lots of milk and strong flow

Hey there! My baby is 11 days old and I’m just learning how to BF. I’ve been having a very strong flow past few days and the baby is choking on milk. I’ve tried to lay down to feed but doesn’t seem to do much… how do I fix it to comfortable speed/quantity for the baby. 🥲

Hey twin! Same problem and also with an 11 day old. The midwife recommended I remove a couple of ounces a couple of times per day with a hakka but I haven’t tried this yet. I am also trying to offer one breast at each feed and have been trying the Koala position as I read it can help… I don’t think there are any magic solutions unfortunately and hoping it will regulate a bit at around 6 weeks. Good luck and feel free to drop me a line just so we can exchange findings. X

I've been leaning back to feed in koala to avoid any choking. It's helped some. I also put her on my shoulder for a break / burps in between boobs x

I’ve been pumping before a feed so he isn’t choking on milk and then using that to top up after he finishes breastfeeding. It’s what my midwife said to do to help get his weight up, but it’s also helping manage a strong flow. I’ve hand expressed with the Medela Harmony hand pump and now have the Momcozy S12 wearable pump which have both been great.

@Elsa thank you!

@Vicky I’ve tried this seems to work better for us, still mild chocking gasping

@Annabel I have the same momcozy pump, I’ll try! Thank you
