Potty training

Has anyone started potty training and been successful? Have been trying my little boy on a potty that looks like a toilet and he just point blank refuses we’ve left it out for a few months to see if he will take to it any better but the minute I say do you want to use the toilet or anything he just kicks off ! Anyone else having this issue ? I’m thinking of getting one of the toilet seats that go onto our toilets and a step to see if he’ll use the big toilet.

Yes and no! We started at Easter to great success. Things were great at nursery too! But then sleep regression hit, then his friends moved rooms at nursery, and the whole thing went off the rails, potty refusal, etc. This week has been much better, we mix it up with the potty and potette to keep things interesting for him. Good luck, hang in there!

Maybe he's not ready yet, but it's good to explore different options. I'm sure my neighbour said she used a potty toilet for her boy which worked very well and he has no issues using the big toilet. I haven't started with my daughter. I ask her if she wants to use the toilet and she point blank refuses, but she will sit on the potty fully clothed. I'm not rushing her x

What age have you started at. My son is just turned 2 and sometimes he will sit ok on the potty but nothing comes out 🙈 other times he’s not interested at all

We started at Christmas with our daughter and we’ve had success. It did take longer because we started so young but she was showing a lot of signs and she made it clear she didn’t want to wear a nappy anymore so we went with it. I used to work as a potty trainer (niche 😂) and I think it’s a skill capable of being learnt but some children will be easier to train than others due to ‘readiness’ but also simply due to the child’s personality. What you don’t want is a 4 year old that isn’t potty trained because they never seemed ‘ready’ 🙄 sometimes you do just have to make the call about when the time is right! (We’re probably not at that point for April ‘22 babies yet though) I would say anytime over the next 6 months to a year to start would be perfect!

A great way to start is just by incorporating it into your routine so it becomes a habit - like for example always sitting on the toilet/potty before bath so it just becomes part of your bath time routine. Even if it’s just for a second and even if nothing comes out celebrate it and praise him! 🎉 We have the double toilet seat on our loo and it’s great! You also don’t need to worry about gross potties - AND it’s just teaching something that will become natural to them - they see you/siblings on the toilet - they don’t see us sitting on the potty! Take comfort in the fact that one day they will be able to go to the toilet! Don’t push it if it’s not working. Stay positive about it all. Lots of books/songs/videos about potty training!

I'm currently potty training my little one. I am leaving him naked waist down and always asking him if he needs a wee or a poo and I tell him when I am going to do my business too and he joins me and does his too. I only started 2 days ago and he managed to do one poo in the potty too! Definitely wait for signs. He always told me when his nappy needed changing or dirty.. or he would tell me that he needs a toilet then a few moments later his nappy would be spoiled. So these are definitely something you'd need to wait for to start potty training I think x
