Advice needed please, induction vs elective section

Advice needed please ladies. Doctor has advised they don’t want me to go past due date as I have marginally higher amniotic fluid and that baby is measuring ‘big’ according to recent growth scans. The thought of induction scares me as it’s synthetic hormones and pushing your body into something it isn’t ready for. Then the thought of recovery after a c section doesn’t sound great. I am happy to follow doctors suggestions but also want to avoid an emergency c section 😩

I went in to be induced for the same reason and was given 4 pessaries and none of them worked. After five days in hospital I asked to have a semi elective c section which went very smoothly. I was exhausted from being in hospital for five days from being monitored every six hours and other women coming in/ being checked/ getting no sleep/ the general noise from being in hospital. The c section was a lovely experience and the surgeon said that my little boy was very high so the section was a good call. Recovery for me was straight forward. I stayed on top of pain relief and wasn't taking anything after two weeks. Two-three weeks after I was back out walking the dog with my baby. If I am lucky enough to have another baby I will be asking for an elective c section 😊

Thank you so much for your response :) very helpful! I’m glad it went well x

Please do some research around ‘big babies’. Look up Sara Wickham, she has lots of great blogs on this, she’s a midwife with lots of research background. You generally will grow a baby fit to be birthed by you. Scans in the third trimester are very inaccurate. Scans are also 10-20% wrong.

Hi, I was in the same situation, but my baby measured small and I had low PAPP-A levels. I was suggested induction, and I was very scared of it, I didn't like what I heard or read about it, especially if the reason for me was that baby is not getting enough nutrients. I wanted her to be safe. I chose an elective c-section. Best decision ever. I knew what to expect, I was prepared mentally for the surgery and for recovery as well. Baby was born on the 3rd May (so experience is very fresh). If you opt for the elective, make sure you have plenty of support after the surgery. There will be things you will not be able to do and that's okay! (Mom guilt is real...) but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm doing so much better than I expected with recovery... 🥰 oh... and baby was born with 3620 gramms, sooo not small at all 🤣

C section definitely. Recovery isn’t that bad. I

I am in the same position 🙈 I am diabetic so they don’t want me going past my due date. My first child I was induced with and I generally thought it was an awful experience as he was not ready to be born. This time around I am opting for a c section which I have on Monday 😱 the recovery does scare me but we are fully prepared for it. I wanted a calm, relaxed more positive birth this time so I thought this was the best way!

So I’m not trying to scare you me being induced caused me to have an emergency c section and my daughter not breathing so I nearly lost her because I was induced. I loved my c section despite everything and the recovery was a breeze so I would go with a c section

Was induced 3 weeks ago and ended up with cat 2 emergency c section. I’d definitely opt for a c section over being induced if I was given the choice again. My recovery has been fine.

I feel like I’d rather wait until the baby comes naturally even if it’s here past due date.

Well, personally, I would never ever ever go through the horror of induction again. Five days of pain and no sleep had me literally begging for the c section in the end, which, was pretty smooth and I recovered well and quickly from it. Just make sure you do very little when you get home - have partner / someone else at your beck and call for at least a week or two.

I had a failed induction ending in emergency C-section with child number 1, which was highly traumatic since it caused my son having to be in the NICU for a week. I had a planned C-section with child number 2 and, well, that was a much more pleasant and calm experience. I also recovered way better and faster than from my first section (even while having a toddler running around), since this time they had time to do things properly during surgery. At 9 days postpartum I genuinely didn't even notice the wound anymore, it was like nothing had ever happened. Bearing in mind that half the inductions end up in an emergency C-section anyway, I would much rather have a planned C-section if I were you.

I had inductions with both of my girls. The first one i only had one pessary and my waters broke but i had to have the hormone drip it resulted in a forceps delivery and i had quite a big bleed and a tear but it was fast. Second induction was amazing, 1 pessary again, this time they broke my waters and my baby was born 2.5 hours after with no complications at all. I toyed with a c section with my second but im so glad i didnt. U have tk do what u think is best overall and weigh up the pros and cons, any birth can end in a c section. My youngest i was up, showered and walking around a couple of hours after she was born and never had any after pains, my friend had an elective c section around the same time and still gets pain in her scar snd when lifting. But i dont no alot about csections as i havent had one. Also with “big” babies mine were 9.1 and 8.8 and i had both with no pain relief admittedly the first labour didnt go to plan but i dont believe that was because of her size. Xx
