Nursery question

Went for a settling in session at nursery this afternoon and while sitting in reception, I noticed that parents are buzzed into the building and then left to wander through nursery without staff to collect their child. Is this the norm? Seems a bit lax in security to me?

No they should stay in the garden area only if anything once buzzed in

This is what mine is like, we buzz the door someone comes to open it if they recognise you as the parent they let you in The rooms with the children in all have gates on and you can’t just walk in and a member of staff has to hand the child over to you so there’s no way you’d be able to take a child that wasn’t yours So no I don’t think it’s lax in security the staff in the different rooms watch the children in and out and obviously wouldn’t give a child not to their parent Xx

It depends on the nursery, personally having managed a nursery I would prefer to walk with a parent due to safeguarding and them not having a DBS. Maybe if you feel uncomfortable by this then check with the nursery as maybe the staff member that did it shouldn’t have

I work in a nursery we let the parents in with a key fob but only if we recognise them. Our hallway is quite small so we can see where the parents go from our office and the staff members are very alert in the rooms if someone walked in that shouldn’t have they would pick up on this straight away. They need to be let out by a staff member on exit with a key fob so they cannot just walk out of the building without a staff member seeing them x

Where my little girl goes they have like a camera system to buzz people in each room so they can see you before getting buzzed in and you have to say who your going to get

I have a fob for my nursery doors. So you can’t get into nursery without it. Once through two fob doors you’re free to wander to collect your child. Staff are great and questioned my mum picking up my daughter (not usual pick up person but there was an emergency)

In my nursery each room inside is also locked and the staff only let you in if they know your face x

My little girls nursery is like that. Someone lets you in at the door and then you have to go to a member of staff who then talks about your child’s day and hands them over etc. Then when leaving a member of staff has to buzz me out , you can’t just open the door and leave yourself . I personally don’t think there’s a problem with it.

With my son’s nursery I buzz the door go in, put his backpack on the hangers, take his coat off and try to distract him to play with things. Then I speak to the nursery staff, I don’t just walk out as it’s nice to have a conversation to let them know what kind of mood your child is in on that day At the end of the day I speak to the staff to see how his day has been & they unlock the door to let us out as otherwise the kids will probably try and escape. I think that’s pretty good.
