Do I really need that many clothes for my baby?

For my minimalist mamas, do I reeeeally need that many clothes for my baby? (Im currently 2 days late from my due date, still no baby & just reorganizing her dresser) Do babies get their clothing that dirty that often? 😅 i have so many clothes from her baby shower...too much. I mean if she’s good with chilling in her diaper all day (if the temperature safely allows of course), I’m cool with that! Any advice here?

I have only a Tupper Ware bin given to me from a friend, I maybe bought 3 outfits and was given 3 from family. It's all mostly 0-3ms and some 3-6ms. I refuse to buy anything because I've been told they grow so fast and we will just be in the house first few months anyways with all the craziness she can just wear a diaper. 👍 I'll take care of the rest when she needs it lol

Thats what i figured too since we’re gonna be home a lot, & I refuse to buy clothes too hahah thank you!!

I’d say unless they are sick or their nappy leaks then until they start eating food they would only need one outfit a day

In my experience, yes. My LO was exclusively breastfeed and she had massive' watery blowouts several times a day (and sometimes at night) until we started solids at 6 months. Very common with EBF babies. Between the blowouts and the spitups, I sometimes would go through up to 5 outfits a day. I did laundry frequently but still was glad to have a stock of clean baby clothes. Good luck!

You can't go wrong with having atleast x6 plain white vests, x4-6 sleep suits, x3 Cardigans, x2 mattress protectors + sheets, and plenty of muslins!!! X

Nope don't need much ...I hand wash clothes ,diapers ect hang dry and repeat when needed... they grow so quick it's a waste in my opinion

They do grow out of them sooo fast but on the other hand I found that they took quite a few days to dry on a maiden so I needed to get extra or I’d have run out of dry vests and sleepsuits. You could always buy more 0-3 month things rather than newborn as it doesn’t matter if they’re a bit big, you can just roll the sleeves up x

Some days he’d wear the same outfit all day and night, some days we’d go through 5 outfits and it wouldn’t be dinner time yet. It’s almost impossible to predict the pace, amount, and direction of fluid that will come out of a newborn human at any time. If you HAVE the clothes already, I’d hold onto them until she outgrows. I have a minimalist streak and used to work in retail. For me it made sense to created a box of favorites, and a box of “backstock”. (If I effing hated something I let myself give it away. No needless suffering!) Turned out that I had no idea what size, warmth, and quantity of clothing my child would actually end up needing until he got here. I spent a lot of time in the backstock box. Once he outgrew an outfit, I had a process set up for boxing and handing down his clothes to other families. My baby turns 6 months this month and I‘ve handed down 99% of his outgrown clothes.

You’re so welcome. And good luck to you! Also, the mirror in your photo is fantastic.

This is awesome- I have that back stock box too!! At first had clothes I absolutely did not like in there until I realized. No needless suffering exactly!! Still have plenty of clothes in there so we’ll see how often I’m gonna be digging through that! Thank you!

Personally, yes. My daughter had blowouts all the time (still does, it’s worse if she poops in her car seat where the poop can only go off to the sides) and she had a habit of peeing in between switching the diaper. On a flat surface, obviously it forms a puddle lol so it would go all over her clothes and back. It was fun

Ah yes, the open air pee. Destroyer of outfits and clean diapers.

I’ve gone with 6 babygrows and vests of each size, figured that’s enough to allow a spare in drawers, one on and a couple in wash / on line etc

For me personally 0-3 months yes because blowout happens often, so is vomiting 😂 but after that no, my babies run around in diapers and undies 😂😂

Yes I agree with the blowout comments because that happened SO often, but you really don't need that many clothes because they do grow so fast

Plus less clutter and less laundry! 😂

You don’t need that much and I wouldn’t worry anyhow if you do end up needing something you can just go get it. I’d rather buy it as I go then end up with a bunch of clothes he never wore. Babies grow quickly so most things won’t fit for long. They do go through clothes quickly once they start moving around on the floor and eating solids (tend to get it all over clothes) but again if it’s warm you can always let them hangout in a diaper.

You really don't need a lot.

NOPE! As long as you do laundry like once a week you should be fine! I had a family member send 3 huge boxes of clothing and I ended up getting rid of it. Only have 1 drawer of the dresser of actual clothing. The other drawers have spit up rags, blankets and swaddles. My first born had so many clothes we didn’t even get a chance to wear them all and ended up getting rid of them with the tags still attached.

More than anything it depends on how often you want to/can do laundry 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lol my kids are alwaysss dressed i don't do the diaper thing. They look much cuter in the cute clothes. I go through many jammies.

No you don’t. I rarely changed baby’s clothes so often as to need a bunch. And less clothes makes it easier for you guys to have more skin to skin.

Lol my twins lived in diapers still do I only dress them when we have to leave the house

You won’t use the majority of it. I found I had a few favourites and just washed them regularly. You’re doing that much washing it doesn’t matter anyway!

I’m due in November and haven’t purchased any clothes yet. I understand they grow very fast and feel like I rather put more money into diapers, wipes etc.

Bbmx Co Nn I’m I’m mi

Nope!! I was just thinking about the same thing this morning. Looking at my sons closet (he’s 3 months now) he has sooo many clothes he’s not going to wear. Especially with this heat we’ve been having! He wears the same few onsies all the time. Get clothes second hand if you really need more.

My daughter hasn't had many blowouts. When she did we switched diapers and haven't had a problem since. She goes through 2 outfits a day at most but it's usually just the one. If I have more than maybe a dozen outfits I most likely won't use them...

Personally my little girl threw up aaalll the time and she was premature so we needed to keep her warm. I wouldn't leave the house without at least two outfits packed. That said, those outfits were all pajamas because I couldn't be bothered. I think every kid is different, but it's probably best to have 10 onesies and 10 sleepers. But also it's summer... good luck!

I personally think they can have a minimal wardrobe. ☺️ When my son was a newborn to six months we did a lot of skin to skin time, especially since I breastfed. I think for the winter months you will want some cozy jammies but I may just be blessed that my little tator tot runs a little warm so he doesn’t wear too much clothes often. I think at least 6-12 pieces throughout the sizing/growing phases.

They don’t need a ton of clothes in each size especially the really small sizes because they only wear the smallest stuff a few weeks it seems like. Some days my son wore two or three different outfits but they were the simple onesies or jammies that he basically lived in. The only thing I needed to buy at first was pants. He got tons of tops but no bottoms as gifts. Target sells multi packs of the stretch pants. As long as you have three or four days worth of clothes and a washing machine you will be fine. No matter how many outfits you have once a baby comes you end up doing at least twice the usual amount of laundry.

And that’s a very cool mirror

I agree with Laura completely too! Newborn sizes are precious but they grow through them so quickly

My son ended up with A TON of clothes from his baby shower & my friend from overseas. I got rid of the majority- just keeping my favorites because he stays in a diaper most of the time. He really only gets dressed when we go out because he gets overheated easily & enjoys being a diaper bum lol

I’d say depends on the baby and how often you do laundry. We have had 4-5 outfit days. We did not have much newborn or 0-3 though. Even know we have one drawer and a little of a second with current (6-9) and up to 19-24 with a little in the closet.

My sons are in diapers most of the time. With my first born I was always changing his onesies. But with my twins they wear close when we leave the house only. Sometimes just a little tshirt (they look like tommy pickles from rugrats) haha

All the clothes we have are hand me downs and we definitely don't need everything we've been given. Our baby doesn't spit up that often which helps, but I'd say we could survive with 5 onesies, maybe 5 sleepers, 2 flannel swaddle blankets, 2 light muslin blankets and 2 of those Velcro nighttime swaddle wraps. We honestly got about 20 blankets and have about 20 sleepers too. One thing I've learned is people really like dumping their old baby stuff on you, and you have to start saying no or you end up with crazy amounts of stuff.

If your baby spits up a lot, having the extra clothes really helps. This is my experience anyway!!

I gave most of his clothes away. Plus he out grew most of his clothes as well.

I had SO many clothes when my son was born & honestly, he worn the same like, 6 outfits. In the very beginning you might change baby more because they usually spit up quite frequently but, even then you really only go through a few outfits a day. Just keep up on laundry & I promise you’ll only need a handful of clothes.

Hopefully that works, I've never done that before..

I personally don't have a lot of stuff I think that three or four of each thing is good enough since they just grow out of it so fast so, stuff like three or four pairs of footie pajamas the white onesies some pants the ones that are footed pants those are awesome and just a couple of shirts maybe a sweater gloves 2 hats and 2 booties the ones that Velcro. You can never have too many bibs though

I recommend at least 3 outfits a day

About 4 onesies a day and a zipper pajama at night is what we need daily. And a pair of socks. I go through more burp cloths then anything.

My daughter loves to be naked. She use to spit up at times but we would just clean her up. No big deal. We received so many clothes, as well as, purchasing all these outfits because they look cute. She definitely did not wear all of that. Tags still left on. She’s beautiful raw. So that’s how we leave her majority of the time. ☺️😍 I love the idea of cutting the onesies!

Yes!! Cutting onesies to this day, and my daughter is 3, lol. As they get older you can also make shorts out of pants, and use some younger pants as capris. My daughter's current favorite shorts are her 9 month old pants!! I also eventually cut off a lot of the snaps in the crotch and just had all shirts that were held down by pants, that way a messy diaper only required new pants, not a whole new change of outfit. Pants and a shirt was our go to most of the time, and only zippered onesies, doing 13 snaps on a wiggling baby? Forget it!! Lol. I love the following article that expresses my sentiments exactly....

Agreed completely. I love the creativity.

Same here! You’re going to fly through the sizes and what you have... then you can buy a few things knowing how little time you spend in them. My friend kills the game at value village and gets her sons clothes there. Brand new. Tags on!

Honestly I think lots of clothes is a waste of money since my daughter was born all the way up to now she’s 5 months old . I only ever put clothes on her when we are going to go somewhere or when there’s company but inside the house I’m in my bra and shorts so she’s fine just chilling in a diaper but that’s just me

Because of the pandemic, we don't leave the house - no need for clothes! We use cloth diapers and they are SO CUTE so who needs onesies😂?! We got so many clothes (that we didn't register for), so we have stuff she's never even worn that she's grown out of already🤷🏽‍♀️it's a waste😕

They don’t get super dirty until they can move and eat things other than milk!

I agree with this. Eating solids is very messy.

Depends on how often you wanna change them. You can change them after every spit up or only if its really bad (me) 😁 also, it's not like we can go many places right now anyway so no need for a lot of fancy outfits either

Haha Also, me on the “really bad”!

I go thru at least two onzies a day and then I put a clean one on before bed time. As far as burp cloths I go thru A LOT of those,, I end up using wash clothes as well. I do about 3 loads of laundry a week (mon - fri) on the weekends it depends. But yes your lil nugget can run around in just a diaper right now. Even at night if you swaddle them. Hope that helps 🙂

I moved from Germany and have no family and friends here. Before my little one was born we didn’t receive gifts from my hubby’s family but my Mom came to visit and brought a luggage of clothes my niece and nephew outgrew. Some stuff I bought myself but most of the time just a diaper worked fine and my babies love being naked haha ♥️

I got so many newborn clothes and my youngest has only used 1/4 of them. I’d leave tags on a lot and either regift them or return for sure! Then again, my son was in only a diaper until 3 months unless we left because we did tons of skin to skin.

You won't need much. My baby was born the day after lockdown so I just bought one pack of newborn onesies the day after she was born. I had two packs of 0-3 onesies and vests three matching sets and 3 dresses. As it has been said, no need for much as the weather will be changing soon, social distancing is still a thing so there aren't many events happening and babies outgrow clothes so fast. Save your money for other things. 😀

I feel like I went through a lot more onesies with my daughter than son due to explosions. But that’s because of the way the diapers fill because of well... anatomy 😂😂😂 honestly a pack of onesies per size plus a couple footie pj’s are enough. My 9 month old still had clothes with tags on them because I never get down to the bottom of the drawer from doing laundry so often anyways 🤷🏽‍♀️
