8 month old regression.

Hello, my baby I believe is going through his 8 month old sleep regression! He won’t have a nap in the afternoon it’s literally a battle and he will constantly cry and cry because he’s so tired. He normally wakes up at 1:30-2pm and will fight his sleep for hours on end. The last few days he’s been fighting his sleep for 5-6 hours will literally stay awake from his last nap untill 8pm. I try everything at some points he’s quiet and relaxed while we watch loo loo kids or coco melon on tv but I have to be constantly holding him which is difficult considering I’m 5 months pregnant. Anyone have any advice or little tips I can do? I do take into account all other aspects like teething and mental development but surely there’s little tips to even get him to sleep for atleast 30 mins or so. Thanks ladies!!

I sadly have no tips but I am in the same boat!!

Hi! Sleep consultant here 👋🏼 stick with 2 naps and wake windows that go 3 hours awake, nap, 3.5 hours awake, nap, 4 hours awake, bedtime. That usually works well at that age and during that regression. If he doesn’t fall asleep in the crib yet, that will definitely be an important thing to teach him, especially because you have another baby coming. I would also recommend against any screen time as experts say babies should not be exposed to screens before 18 months old and it should be very limited after that. Cocomelon is an especially overstimulating show and can lead to lots of crying and not wanting to sleep later on even if he appears to enjoy it while it’s playing. Screen time disrupts melatonin production which is the sleepy hormone and you want your baby to be releasing that hormone at the right times throughout the day to help him sleep. I don’t say this with any judgment, I just know screen time can be a trigger for lots of dysregulation and poor sleep. Good luck!
