Thoughts on cloth diapers?

Has anyone used cloth diapers and preffered them? I'm tired of all the garbage from disposables and how many we went through with our first baby! How many would you recommend having? Any good brands?

I do. I have been cloth diapering my 15m old for almost a year. At first we did a diaper service then switched to paper because it was cheaper than the service but then I just bit the bullet and bought some pocket diapers and started a wash routine. It's not as gross or intimidating as I thought it would be. You get the hang of it after a while and I feel good about not littering our already deteriorating planet. I use Alva baby and Nora's nursery pocket diapers. Pocket diapers are cool because they absorb moisture well and it doesn't stay on the baby's skin. We like these as my son does not have rashes. We got rash with the paper diapers tho :/ you don't have to go all out with cloth either. You could do a combination of paper and cloth until you get into a routine. We have about 40-50 diapers though I do wash diapers twice a week so the smell does not bother anyone. And thr diaper prints are so freaking cute! I often just let my son walk around in a diaper and t-shirt this summer.

Awesome this was really helpful thank you! I like the idea of trying a combo at first to get the hang of it

We use a hybrid system right now where we have disposables at night and if we leave the house but if we're just at home during the day we use cloth. Our favorite cloth diapers are Nora's nursery you can get packs of seven for a really decent price and they're cute prints their pocket style diapers. Or a bit more pricey but they're seriously a workhorse Essembly diapers they're washing powder is amazing and we use it on our Nora's nursery diapers too. Cloth diapers do have a bit of a learning curve but now that we're into a flow with them I find them pretty easy. The hardest part is just the washing and drying once you get a system in place it's not so bad. We're still building up our diaper stash so I wait until I see them go on sale and then I grab packs of seven at a time.

Oh I loved cloth diapers. My advice: get several different kinds secondhand, find which kind works best for you, then get more of those. We ended up loving a different style than we expected, and the cool thing is the cotton is so durable that we were the THIRD family to use the same set! Having a good washing machine felt essential. Good luck!
