I have had a c-section, 100% natural, epidural and a paracervical block. The best experience was 100% natural. I had back pain with the epidural. After doing some research on epidurals, apparently back pain is common for some women. For me the back pain lasted an extended period of time. Personally I would skip an epidural and read The Bradley Method.

I had no epidural and I'm so glad! I felt a ton of intense pressure but it wasn't the worst pain I'd ever felt. And my baby came out super alert and latched well, I think because of no anesthesia.

I had excruciating back labour so as soon as I hit 4cm I begged my midwives for an epidural. I knew going in I’d want one and it was in my birth plan. 41 hours later after progressing slowly and even losing a cm I was given an emergency c section and I am so glad I got that epidural because I cannot imagine trying and failing to dilate fully without it. The only issues I had after was the itching. I also had a catheter so I couldn’t get up for the first 36 hours after surgery.
