Pelvic/lower abdomen pain, doctor won’t listen

I’ve had this pain since I was 14, on and off. I’ve talked to many doctors about it and haven’t been able to get many of them to help me. If I push down on my lower abdomen, usually more on my right side, it hurts. If I cough, sneeze, sit down too hard or move positions in bed too roughly, it hurts really badly. Not to mention sex is so incredibly painful I can hardly bear it. I’ve been checked for endometriosis, sti’s, yeast and bv, given stool softeners, they’ve checked for cysts, nothing. This was an on and off issue but now that I’m pregnant it’s gotten worse. It hasn’t gone away since about 15 weeks, I’m now 24. The baby started kicking at about 18 weeks and as he gets bigger, the more painful it is. My doctor keeps telling me to just deal with it until after I have the baby but I don’t know if I’ll be able to. It’s already affecting my quality of life at this early, I can’t imagine when the baby gets even bigger. Has anyone else experienced this? Trying to figure out what I should do. I don’t know if I need a referral to a pelvic floor doctor but that’s what I’m thinking I should do. Is that safe during pregnancy? Advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

I haven’t, but I’ve had this pain for almost 15 years. Can it last that long? It will also go away for sometimes months at a time without causing any issue and then come back out of nowhere with varying degrees of pain day to day

I know it may sound like a stupid thought but could it be your kidney? I had the same but on my left side, and when I finally got them to listen to me I had kidney stones ( I’ve had them twice and had surgery to get them removed) but it sounds like that to me! It’s definitely worth a check cause it you let it continue the pain will be agonising believe me!😅

@Nova ❤️ definitely not a stupid thought! I’m open to about anything at this point. I just want to feel normal. I’ll talk to my doctor, thanks!

@Amanda which eating plan do you follow? I’m open to trying almost anything at this point.

Medical gaslighting is a thing and it’s RESL! Run girl! Run to a competent doctor who listens to you. Please take it seriously. If your doctor isn’t listening to your concerns and working his ass off trying to fix it? Go somewhere else cause It could literally mean life or death.

Hey @Ashley. Sorry for my delayed response … I’ve just had a baby myself so have been a bit preoccupied! Thanks for your message… I’m sorry you’ve had so much pain with not a lot of answers. Unfortunately the western medical system just doesn’t have answers for a lot of painful conditions.. people just have a hard time admitting that. It can be hard to give advice without assessing you myself or seeing you in person but I think the diet thing that was suggested could be worth a try as it could be related to systemic inflammation/irritation. Diet can play a big role in pain provocation. I would also see a pelvic floor physiotherapist in person. Pain with sex and around the hips and lower abdomen can indicate muscle tension, nerve pain, muscle weakness, hypersensitivity etc. - there are a number of things that can be treated with pelvic floor therapy and it’s usually safe during pregnancy unless you have any high risk conditions that your OB is concerned about so you can ask.

I hope that is at least some what helpful. I would look around your area to see if there are any pelvic floor Physical therapist you could see who could start treating you. It could take sometime to see improvement.. chronic pain does get better but ideally you are able to work slowly and consistently with someone who hopefully is experienced with chronic pain. Manual therapy (with a pelvic floor therapist) can be extremely helpful in reducing pain. It’s not an area you can easily assess or work on yourself so having a therapist do that can do wonders.
