Formula anxiety

So I have a few questions about formula feeding. I have a 5 week old baby and he’s taking in 4 oz of formula, is that okay or should I have waited. There’s times where he doesn’t finish it all but other times when he does. Another question, is it okay that I use a pitcher and have my formula premade then warm it up in a bottle warmer? I keep seeing posts about people boiling the water then putting the formula in. Wasn’t sure if I’ve been doing it wrong. Also formula feeding on the go, I just use a water bottle and then pack up the scoops of formula in our containers, it that okay? And lastly (sorry a lot of concerns lol) my son has been taking similac 360 advance since the hospital and he’s now getting a bit constipated and really gassy, he poops 2 a day but it’s a lot, are there anyone formulas that can help? He seems to like it, I just see him struggling to poop a bit. We also have wic so preferably something that they can provide for us would help.

1- feed baby until they are full. If he’s taking 4 oz, feed him 4 oz! Baby should leave a little bit in the bottle so if he sucks down 4 oz give more . 2- yes 3- yes for powdered formula you want to boil the water before hand. The boiled water kills bacteria which may be in the powdered formula . The cdc has a link on this that explains . 4- constipation question is better addressed by your doctor. Pooping 2 a day is fine and I wouldn’t say that’s constipated. New babies like that will always seem like they are struggling to poop- it’s just what they do

@Jessica okay yeah that’s what I figured. I was giving him 3.5 oz but he still seemed hungry so I just started with 4 oz a week ago. Oh okay for on the go I just use water bottles and for my pitcher I use water bottles also and refrigerate it and use the bottle warmer when it’s time for him to eat. I’ve never boiled the water before but I will now. Oh okay thank you so much!!! It gives me a lot of anxiety lol but thank you I appreciate your help!

That doesn’t sound like he’s constipated just learning how to poop! Only be concerned if his poop is little pebbles. Everything else I agree with Jessica! I do the same thing for bottles on the go! I also use bottled water when making bottles at home, I don’t boil it. Purified water is good enough, and if your warming it anyway then you don’t need to boil it before!!

@Leah not true. The cdc recommends boiling water. It’s not the water that is a problem, it’s the powdered formula. It has a risk of having bacteria in it - the boiled water kills the bacteria

@Leah oh okay! I wasn’t sure he just looks uncomfortable doing it and it makes me sad to see him look like that lol oh okay no his poop isn’t like that at all! Okay great thank you for the reassurance! Really appreciate it(:

@Jessica so how would you take the water on the go? Put it in a flask? And if I’m warming it up would I still need to boil the water before hand ?

You only boil it when you make it initially. Then the formula goes in the fridge if you make it bulk right? So then you wouldn’t need to boil it again .

My 6 month old still looks uncomfortable pooping and I’ve brought it up to the pedi and she said they are still learning how to work their pooper! Lol You don’t need to boil water at all since your using purified water. The bottle warmer is just preference really. The boiling is just if your not using purified or distilled water initially.

No it’s not. @Leah again it’s not the water that is the issue it’s the formula . Powdered formula can have chronobacteria in it. Please read the attached link. The hot water kills the bacteria in the formula. Water itself is not the issue https://www.cdc.gov/cronobacter/infection-and-infants.html

@Jessica hmm.. never heard of that! I’ve also never had any issues without taking the time to boil it.. but I will read it! Thanks for the info!

@Jessica I never boiled the water when making formula I just use water bottles then refrigerate it and when I’m ready to use I use a bottle warmer

@Leah oh okay yeah it makes me feel bad to see him uncomfortable to poop but it’s been better these last few days! Oh okay great thank you !

@Jessica I will also look into the link thanks !
