Hi!

My name is Shannon and my son was born Oct 16,2020. I just joined this group though! Our little man is named Spencer. He’s super happy and healthy but he is not meeting his speech mark at all . He understands everything but only says about 6 words we read and he’s not always interested. We watch Ms. Rachel, (love her!) and he started daycare about3 weeks ago more for socialization and to develop his speech more. It seems to be helping a bit but not as much as we had hoped regarding speech. The doctors that we have talked to aren’t extremely concerned, but have referred us to early intervention. However , they say since he understands everything and is saying some words that they’re hopeful for the future and we don’t qualify for the program. We pretty much have been told to narrate everything we are doing and we do and that’s why he’s able to understand everything. We try to say words a little bit slower sometimes and help him kind of sound it out but he just doesn’t seem to have interest in sounding them out. He’s gotten a couple new words in the past couple weeks so we’re hopeful but it’s frustrating and sad at the same time. I just wish I could hear more of my baby’s voice. Is anybody else’s littles living with a speech delay ? what have you tried that has seemed to aid the progress?

Yes he does have his little Ellie the elephant and that’s helped him . They said they’ve heard him try to sound out words better not no actual words. We’re hopeful. Also I feel like a couple things might have to do with the slow communication…. He’s still very very attached to his pacifier. We don’t let him bring it to daycare and he’s fine with that but we try to only have it for naps and bedtime now or if he like loses it during play or is distracted and it will pick it up and will take it right but if we try to you know, just take it from him when he is sucking on it, he will flip out, so we just chose not to fight that battle. So I don’t know if that has something to do with it as well as he doesn’t have all of his teeth and when he doesn’t have his Passy he drools a bit and pulls at his tongue sometimes and I think it might be teething 🤷🏼‍♀️

We have a pediatrician appt soon and im going to request a speech pathologist referral even if we have to pay out of pocket. He’s worth it. It’s time.

Mines hasn’t met the speech marks either and he was born on the 19th of October 2020 and he doesn’t say any words at all but I think I’m getting a speech n language therapist
