1 year old still doesn’t want solid foods 😵‍💫

Help mamas! I have a very picky eater 😩 and no matter what I give my son or how I approach mealtime he barely will even bring the food to his mouth. He will cry and/or just push my hand away if I show him how to eat. I encourage him but he just never wants food. I may have been a bit late to giving him lots of options but he’s been eating purées since about 6 months. But anything new I try it all ends up on the floor, and makes it seem like I’m torturing him by offering food…any suggestions??

Have you tried bananas 🍌? Maybe try mixing up some foods into the purees to see if he might like that. Maybe he is teething 🤷‍♀️ my little does eat much when he is teething or in pain. Try letting him play with the baby spoon 🥄 or fork so he can figure it out.

Thank you mama! I will try that. Yes it could be teething 😵‍💫 I feel like when I try going into full swing with solids he’s teething and just doesn’t want a thing

It's also okay that he still wants purees, just put out some small finger foods or something then maybe he'll try to eat if he doesn't eat it that's okay. No one is perfect neither are kids.

I needed to hear this…it’s weighing on me and I feel horrible, and feel like I’ve done him a disservice by not introducing some things sooner. Thank you 🙏🏻

it's totally ok he is getting a lot of nutrition from the purees. Your frustration is valid. My brother didn't eat anything other than Cheerios for a full 2 years till he actually wanted to try new foods. Just take that deep breath when you need it cuz it probably won't get easier.

Wow!!! That’s crazy haha. Also, another question mama. If my son is still not quite eating solid meals to get that daily nutrition, do I continue to give formula or do I need to start the 3.25% homogenized milk in place if it? I’m confused about that bit of what he should have. I still want him to get enough nutrition so do I do both or one or the other? Sorry for my questions 😂😵‍💫

I would say do the homogenized Milk and get some multivitamin drops but u can do both. also see if his likes yogurt or rice pudding 😜. You could also talk to a pediatrician to see what they recommend or family Dr.

Amazing!! Thank you!! 🙏🏻

He does like yogurt, so that’s a plus hahaha

Oh my guy is getting more teeth I find giving him Tylenol before he eats helps. That's just my scenario. Food still ends up on the floor.😮‍💨😅😫😣😑 But as long as he eats and is not losing weight.👍

My babes is a picky eater too. She phantom eats where she chews it and spits it out. I’ve found that if I got my face in front of her eating the food ( I make enough to share) she’ll grab from my hand or stick her hands in my mouth when it’s gone. She’ll eat some but I really have to turn off all distraction and not talk much to let her investigate and focus. And I just eat like a sloppy monster in her face. I can’t force or trick her into eating anything and she self feeds. I’m also BF until 2 yrs old. She won’t drink water but we’ll work on that when she gets better with food.

Try to feed them when you are having meal Mine was picky too Now i feed her while her father is having food

@jessica hahah funny thing is my son DOES like distraction when he eats, it encourages him in a way lol. But yes, still throws it over the side. And I agree about tricking them…doesn’t work, they know! My son also grabs food and just wants to give it to me, I try to demonstrate over and over about the motion of picking it up and eating it/putting hand to mouth and he’s not quite there. We’ve had breakthroughs with small dissolvable crackers and muffins lol. He likes those. But it’s touch and go. Mmm yes I’m still giving him formula too. Haven’t cut that out completely until his diet gets more balanced out. So I’m now mixing formula and milk, but for ex now I’m mixing milk in cereal instead of formula. Trying to make small changes. I agree! Working on the food but keeping up their nutrition is important.

@Afifa I have yet to do this and I need to start. My husband is always away early for work so I’m the one who does breakfast with my son. So I need to start eating with him more. Even when I eat mine after/before him he just watches me like he wants it lol bro I hand him something and he’s like nope, and I try to say things like “ohh mummy just loves her eggs and toast yum” things like that to show him food is not an enemy haha

@Kate hope that will work out , i even have to dance for my baby most of the time to feed her food😂😂

I feel all my boy eats is yogurt Yogurt and apricot puree Or any fruit pureed with yogurt & he loves peanut butter But give him some veggies or protein he throws it or gags enough to make himself throw it up just so he dont have to eat it. 🙄 cause you give him pb or fruit after he gobbles it down.

@Afifa I do too!!! He’s obsessed with bubble guppies and especially if I dance to it 😂 I must look crazy whoever is looking in

@Jess ya Aleks loves fruit purées too. He’s not it in the protein stuff yet, that is a work in progress. I haven’t tried pb yet but I will in the next day or so! Doc said he can try it. Just nervous to give it lol though I don’t think he has an allergies but who knows
