@Jillian is it worth it 🥲
Baking soda
You can try different litter or a different litter system. Pine litter tends to be a little fresher smelling but not as easy to clean because most of it is not clumping. Pretty litter is pretty great at absorbing the urine smell but you still need to scoop the poop right away. My friend swears by the Tidy Cats breeze system which absorbs the urine in a disposable tray and you just scoop the poop only.
I switched to the Tidy Cats Breeze system,it's pellets but def a game changer
Baking soda and I also clean out the litter box with white vinegar as well
Basically you’re not doing anything wrong. Cleaning often and using baking soda is the best if you’re going to stick with clay letter. The litter box is going to have some smell to it unless you get the high end self-cleaning kind which are all priced over $500.
@Em đź’• omg yes! I used to live in a small one bedroom apartment and I had it in my living room! My mom was amazed at how you couldn't smell anything. I had 2 cats and changed the bag once a week.
One other thing: I personally can’t stand the smell of scented litter so if I’m using clay litter, I get the unscented litter. I’d rather deal with the natural smell of waste than having the weird “absorbing” artificial scents mixed with the urine. It’s just personal preference what you can handle. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll find a better system that works for you.
@Jillian that’s on my wishlist. I am in that situation now. Two cats in a small place. 🥹
@Christine that’s the clay litter I like Best as well. I agree.
@Em đź’• It is absolutely the best investment for my cats & my nose I ever made... I swear by the litter robot. I have 5 cats and 1 litter robot.. we have to change the tray one or 2 times a week. No smell, people don't ever realize we have cats lol. I haven't touched dirty gross litter in years & I couldnt be happier. The app let's you know if anything is up with the cats, the box, when it needs changing etc. We use boxie cat litter in the robot since you just have to watch the weight of the litter so it doesn't disrupt the turning of the egg. We have the 3, we'll be getting a 4 soon since with the baby we'll need to put gates up at the stairs so we need another for the 1st floor now too so the cats aren't stuck on either floor away from a box with the new gates being put up. Absolutely get a litter robot. 100% get it.
@Shelley that would be it. I have 3 cats and currently they all share 1 I change the pad twice a week and scoop every other day and other than right after a poop there is no scent. Not all cats like the pellets though so be mindful of that(: When I haad my own place I had 3 litter boxes changed out the pads once a week scooped 1-2 times a week depending on how they were used and full pellet change very 3 months or so.
Saw dust. Or tidy cat multi performance. But saw dust has worked wonderfully with keeping smell out.
Maybe it’s the litter you use. Mine doesn’t smell at all, I use green woods natural fibre clumping litter, it clumps so well that you remove every last bit of waste. The litter says it doesn’t need a full change until 5-7 weeks and I’ve been going 4 weeks no problem at all.

@Lisa where do you get it? I tried to look it up and I can't seem to find it
Amazon!
Im a breeder. I have 7 cats. At any given time I might have 20 kittens. Good clumping litter so that you can remove all the yucky's out of the Box is a big help. Baking soda, too. Scoop 2x a day. Fresh litter every 2 weeks or so. But here's the kicker that helps more than anything with so many cats. Get a good air purifier. Once I did this I made a huge difference!! Make sure the purifier is the right Sq footage for the space.

It's not a cheap or even an affordable option but I have a litter robot. It's amazing.
