Baby led feeding and messes

Baby Is about to be 6 months and I was thinking about baby led feeding. He’s had oatmeal only, a bit thick as opposed to watery. Is baby led feeding super messy? Tips? I feel I will skip watery purées anyways and make them thicker/ chunky (my first son had issues eating/ textures) so I want to avoid that this time. ( I did lots of purées with him) Tips on how to start, what I need, suggestions Or of there is a happy medium between purées and baby led feeding? Since baby led feeding seems like a lot of work

My sister would give her baby solid for breakfast and lunch (yup, it gets messy) and then give him pureed food for dinner so that he would eat more and go to sleep with a full tummy and sleep through the night.

Whatever you feed make sure little starts drinking water so they don’t get constipated. When you add food, they’re getting less breastmilk or formula so just keep an eye on the number of wet diapers and the consistency of their poo. If the poo is thicker or dryer than usual make sure to increase fluids/water

@Adrianna that is such a good idea. Because I been giving him oatmeal before bed and he makes such a mess. With two kids at bedtime it becomes a lot on school nights. I think I will do. Thanks.

@Heather he’s a breastfeed baby, but drinks one bottle of breastmilk at night. Can I start cups with straws now?

I really liked the solid starts app to track foods that my LO was trying. The app also tell you the safest way to serve a food for each age. I would also make notes on how it was served or if I used it in a recipe. Each food also has a baby friendly recipe incase you don't know how to prepare it. It does get messy, but self feeding helps a great deal with fine motor development and gets them comfortable and interested in eating.

You can start chips whenever you want. I’m attempting regular cups.. which is messy lol. If you want to try straws should be ok. I’d try to make sure that they’re getting breastmilk before water tight to ensure they get the nutrients first and hydration 2nd. Try teaching sign language too for milk, eat more drink etc. mines caught on too milk and queues me now lol. It’s great.
