Embryo Testing

I’m in my early 40s and have had various MC’s - all unexplained. As part of my next cycle I get a fresh transfer included in the price (as opposed to spending an additional £1.8K on a separate frozen transfer). I’m trying to make the call on whether to go fresh and risk using another abnormal embryo or test any embryos I get and freeze - at a higher cost. What are peoples thoughts on embryo testing? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have a slightly different situation, but I'm 39 and had a previous pregnancy that ended due to a chromosomal issue. I can only say from talking to people that those who have had losses are more likely to go for testing. Personally, we decided to go for the (free) fresh because we tested negative as carriers, but if it doesn't work, we will test any frozen ones, if we're lucky enough to have any.

Thank-you Sarah for your reply. Much appreciated. Yes if I’m lucky enough to get more than one I’m definitely testing, but I think I’m swaying towards putting the one that is looking the best in 🤞🏼. I still could go either way though - such a hard decision. So sorry for your loss too - so horrible isn’t it! Sending baby dust

Hi I would test, I'm 40 and have had had 5 failed embryos so far. Currently transfered 3 untested and will find out on Sunday if it worked. But if we go again I will be testing.

My experience is very similar to Sarah’s. We had a lot of genetic testing following our last pregnancy due to a chromosomal condition. The outcome of these tests meant that we were not carriers and so we have decided to go for fresh transfer. We have not managed to get frozen embryos in previous cycles so the likelihood of us being able to do genetic embryo testing is quite slim. Wishing you all the best with your decision. It’s a tough one..and one we debated for a long time (in the end we pushed to get karyotype testing for ourselves)

I’ve had two transfers (one fresh one frozen) neither worked unfortunately. We’ve moved the rest of the embryos to a new clinic who have suggested due to my age having the remaining embryos tested along side the fresh ones from the cycle we are starting now. We have unexplained as our diagnosis. I’m 40. Hoping it gives some answers or clarification really.

Thank-you all - so helpful :-) I guess it’s also worth mentioning that my previous miscarriages were all with my previous partner, who was an alcoholic. This new cycle is with a healthy donor from the US, who has a perfect genetic slate. It’s also worth mentioning that as I’m alone it means I’m paying for everything myself and the extra £2K lost by not going with a fresh is bug, and money that could be going towards another cycle if needed. Such a hard one. I’m definitely testing any additional embryos I get (if I’m lucky enough to get more than one), but it’s the decision around the initial free fresh transfer I’m struggling with. Based on this new information does it sway anyone’s advice? I think I’m going to go fresh for the first. Need to decide today 😬

@Rine I’m so sorry neither worked. Sending very best of luck 🤞🏼

@Nee very best of luck 🤞🏼

@Jo really really really hoping it’s good news for you. Please let us know how you get on 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hi it didn't work again! X

@Jo I’m so sorry to hear that Jo. It’s all so so tough. I hope you’re got a supportive partner to look after you. Big hugs and sending baby dust for next time X
