What do I need to know about a Reproductive Endocrinologist?

I’ve had 3 miscarriages in the past year and at this point I need to see a reproductive endocrinologist. What should I expect? Anyone in the central Florida area? Any suggestions? Or advice. I can get pregnant easily however my babies don’t make it past the 12 weeks. My anxiety has been really bad and I’ve been feeling panic attacks coming on. Should I take a break before seeing a reproductive endocrinologist? The stress of feeling “broken” and the feeling of sadness because I lost another baby has me on the verge of a mental break down.

You’ll likely need a referral to see a reproductive endocrinologist aka “fertility specialist”. I got mine by going to my OBGYN first. They’ll run the standard fertility workups and if anything comes out weird they’ll make the appropriate referrals. Then when you do see the fertility specialist they’ll likely re run the same blood work as well as do additional blood work and ultrasounds. They will also do blood work and a semen analysis on your male partner if applicable. They will then come up with a treatment plan for you and/or your partner based on the results of your tests. As far as your anxiety is concerned I HIGHLY recommend also seeing a psychiatrist and/or therapist ASAP as they can start a TTC friendly treatment plan and psych meds can take a while to get correct. Your fertility specialist may also require a psychological evaluation that you’re mentally fit to undergo IVF so it’s good to get on top of any mental health issues.

My fertility specialist also required a recent Pap smear, breast exam, and physical as well as my GP signing off on me being physically healthy enough to undergo fertility treatment up to and including IVF so seeing your GP for a physical is also not a bad plan.

Have you looked into reproductive immunology especially nk cells? I am the same as you with 4 MCs. I fall pregnant on first try but don’t make it past week 9. We are seeing a specialist who is testing for auto-immune diseases and inflammation.

Re mental health - finding that my issue has medically nothing to do with fertility per se but that my immune response is blocking otherwise healthy pregnancies gave me a lot of hope and willpower. You can message me privately if you want, I have a lot of info collected. It’s a puzzle but we will figure it out. Don’t give up!
