How to do a weighted feed at home?

My sweet boy just turned 2 months on the 16th, we have been consistently and successfully latching since day 1 which I am very thankful for but my milk took a bit longer to come in! I have seen multiple lactation consultants and they had me pumping after every feed, I am still doing that, but only get anywhere between .5-2 ounce after a feed, i get around 3-4 if I pump and give Him a bottle of breastmilk instead! I bought a scale to do weighted feeds at home and im not sure how to go about figuring out how much he is taking in!

You can use the scale in ounces and subtract the after weight from the before weight. Milk is roughly 1 fl oz to 1 oz weight. At least that's what I remember them using at the LC, you could ask to be sure. Or use the machine in grams, 1 g is roughly 1 mL. I think the conversion some use is 30 g to 1 oz because it's easier than using the exact 28.whatever. And it's best to start with a fresh diaper naked, then weigh again without changing the diaper, even if they soil it during because it keeps the original weight + milk for easy calculating. I did try doing this at home using a mail scale but it wasn't precise enough and I was only seeing around 1 oz when I'm pretty confident he was taking in much more. Scales will round and it can be tricky since the milk is a small amount. Hopefully your scale works out! Good luck!

Thank you so much! I just tried and it looks like he took in just over 3 ounces in about 15 min of feed time! Puts mamas mind at ease a bit more🥹

Your pumping amount is completely normal. Some places rent baby scales. I would see if there is a breastfeeding center near you. You weigh baby before a feed and after. Best to do it naked if possible so it’s very accurate.
