Fragmin injections

For 3 weeks straight I’ve taken my Fragmin (blood thinning injections) without fail. I was even very content administering it myself, realising that if I didn’t think about it too much it wasn’t bad and didn’t hurt too much. However, 2 days ago I don’t know what came over me but I physically can’t inject myself anymore or have anyone do it. (I have 6 weeks worth). I’m ‘active’ now, I’m walking a lot and out and about. My only two risk factors were that I had an emergency c section and my ethnicity. Is anyone else taking them for 6 weeks and how are you getting on?

Hi I had injections after my emergency C-section I had them for like 2 weeks I think it was I couldn’t do them myself my partner had to do them for me or I wouldn’t have done them at all they do hurt after a while

I had 6 weeks worth and I gave up after 2 because I just couldn’t face doing them. It’s bizarre because I was ok throughout Labour with the contractions, the epidural etc then I get these stupid little injections and just couldn’t face them. I’m not advocating stopping doing them but I’ve seen several posts on here with ladies who’ve done the same as me and just quit. I think it’s bizarre you either get 10 days or 6 weeks worth, feels like a hell of a leap. I technically should have just less than a week left, I’ve just been making sure I stay as active as possible following my section x

I had 6 weeks worth finished them Sunday just gone. My stomach was so bruised and was so tender and sore from them. I completed them all but 1 day. I hated having to do them x

On paper we would have the same “risk factors”, I also had an emergency c section, but I only had fragmin for 10 days. Could you ask to be reviewed? Sorry it sounds tough x

I had them throughout the pregnancy and was fine, then after the birth (traumatic induction then emergency c-section) I found them Super painful and couldn’t even break the skin with the needle half the time. I gave up after a couple of weeks and still have them sitting in my closet 🙈

Woah that’s a long time. I was given a weeks worth I think because I had PGP and my mobility had been poor. Despite previously going through ivf and being able to inject, I was really struggling with the fragmin. Sacked it off after 3 days…. 🫣

@Mimi @Mimi ooooh you’re lucky! I asked at the hospital when I first got it whether I definitely had to take it for 6 weeks and she looked at me with a sad face and said yep 😂! I feel like I’ll try and start to do it again, if I can’t then I’ll just leave it and just ensure I stay active. Xx

@Amy oh wow! Well done because that’s tough. I’m also impressed that you did it in your stomach. I can only manage my thighs x

@Mia honestly 😂😂 in the hospital when the midwife did the first one, it was the least of my worries after everything I’d been through. But yes I’ve just had a look. I’ll definitely follow suit and stay active xx

I gave up after 2.5 weeks. My husband was doing them for me and the last 2 days the numbness in my stomach seemed to have gone and I cried worse than our baby does so we stopped. I was walking about 2 miles a day by this point (very lucky with my recovery) so figured I'd be fine! Just got to work out where to get rid of the other ones too xx

@Melanie I didn't know I could do it in my thigh! Midwifes told me stomach, if I had known that I would have much rather having them there x

Had an emergency c section and only have to do 10 days and midwife administered in thigh and showed me how to do in the thigh

I'm taking them for 6 weeks. Getting on fine. One of my mates decided to stop her injections early and formed blood clots in both lungs and nearly died. She was low risk so I am definitely finishing them!

I'd speak to your doctor or midwife see what the risks are stopping after 2 weeks if you can't take anymore. Make your decision from there ☺️ I only had them for 2 weeks so can't comment 🤷.

@Sarah oh okay thanks for letting me know 😪😪 I hope your friend is okay. I will speak to my HV

Im surprised to learn that some of you mama’s were given 6weeks worth! I was given 10 days worth and was administering them via my tummy. Was okay but I don’t miss doing it! Im 4 weeks pp and still have 1 small fleshy bump in one spot where I definitely didn’t jab quick or hard enough 😂 (checked with GP today who felt it and said its fine). I wonder that factors are taken into consideration to determine how long to take them for!

@Christel there seems to be a whole host of risk factors that have a score. I was told anythjng above an overall score of 2 automatically takes you from 10 days to 6 weeks, which feels a hell of a leap. So for me I scored a 3 overall. 2 points for emergency section during Labour and 1 point for my BMI, which is slightly above where it should be, so I ended up with 6 weeks 😑😑 x

Oh wow! That does sound like a leap, thank you for the insight @Mia
