Does anyone have some positive sweep stories?

Just had my first sweep at 40+2 and wondered what other’s experiences were after having theirs.

@Sophie thankfully mine wasn’t painful as my cervix was already open a bit and yes I’m definitely getting period pains now too! Congrats on having your little one though!

I had a sweep at 38+4 and it was not painful, just an uncomfortable feeling. My cervix was open and my midwife could feel the water. After 1,5 day my contraction started, so didn’t need to do the induction.

I had a sweep yesterday but cervix was soft but not open so she couldn’t do sweep but whatever she did jiggle has made me loose my bloody show and have sporadic period pains!

I had my second yesterday at 39+5, not painful at all just weird sensation. I am 1cm dilated and she could feel baby’s head. Tiny bit of mucus plug after but no cramps at all. Booked in for a 3rd one tomorrow morning and then induction in the evening x

Sounds like experiences are all really different with them! I’ve been getting intermittent period cramps after so hopefully these will progress 🤞🏻

Had mine at 39 +1. Was fortunate that i was already 3cm, did the sweep which was uncomfortable but bareable, just breath though it. My waters went 3 hours after the sweep and baby arrived very quickly 2 hours later🥰 xx

Honestly… no shade or disrespect to one’s feelings but that term “PERIOD CRAMP” ain’t no period cramp! That cramp is pain, agony mixed with throbbing pain Promax. Those contraction cramps ain’t no period cramp from my experience 🤷‍♀️. Had sweep, cervix still 4cm, water got broken, was contracting every 1-2 minutes with excruciating cramp that you can’t even move. At this stages been on gas & air, I couldn’t breath in again on the gas & air due to the excruciating concentrations cramp, I ask for Epidural which was given after review. 20 minutes after epidural I was calm and smiling but baby heart rate and mine dropped due to the contraction distress, they had to go for emergency section ofcourse with my consent. So in my experience, sweeps I guess works better if your cervix are already open

I had mine at about 2pm on Friday afternoon - 40 weeks and 5 days. Waters broke just after 5am the next day, and my contractions started 20 mins later. Was holding my son by 6pm last night.

@Sonia sounds like the pain you’re referring to is a bit further along than the period cramps we are referring to but congrats on the arrival of your little one!

@Hannah aww that’s great! Congratulations!

Getting my sweep tomorro 39+5 fingers crossed 🤞🤞

Had a sweep at 39 weeks on Tuesday - uncomfortable but over and done with within a few minutes. Nothing happened. Have another sweep tomorrow at 39+6

I had 2 sweeps. First one at 39+6 that only dislodged my mucus plug a bit, 2nd one at 40+3 worked & I gave birth to my little girl at 40+5

I had a sweep with my first born at 39+5, lost my mucus plug and had a bloody show and gave birth the next day x

Had mine yesterday at 40 weeks. A little uncomfortable (and very glamorous obvs 😉) but not that bad. Midwife said it was favourable with a stretchy cervix, bulging waters and 1-2cm dilated. Sadly this hasn’t triggered labour yet but I have another one booked for Tuesday if it doesn’t start by then.

I had a sweep at 40+4 at 15:00 and I was only 1cm dilated and my son was born at 40+5 at 19:38 x

@Chloe thank you! I should say I was 2cm dilated already and my cervix was shortening. She also said it was quite stretchy. Got to hand it to the 6 dates a day!
