Is carbonara safe for toddler?

I wanted to make spaghetti carbonara for my family tonight, but am hesitant about the raw eggs and my 21mo. Can’t seem to find a straight answer online.

Raw eggs? I know with carbonara you put an egg yolk in towards the end of cooking, it gets cooked though :S

Yes

It’s fine. The egg cooks with the heat of the pasta but buy they best quality eggs you can

The egg should cook with the hot pasta.

So from a food safety standpoint it’s better not to. I lived in Italy and was there again for all of my first trimester with my first and they absolutely would not have carbonara when pregnant for example as the eggs are barely cooked, the advice is the same here in Australia. With a 21 month old you could probably take a bit more risk but it depends how you make it. I think maybe in North America a lot of people add cream to carbonara in which case you could cook it longer without ruining the eggs but as a rule the authentic egg only carbonara that is just quickly stirred into the pasta at the end wouldn’t be considered cooked egg. Just to add I worked in food safety for years and am a bit of a foodie and food safety nerd.

If made correctly the egg should be cooked! It’s just not being cooked first directly on a pan. If you don’t feel comfortable though, maybe give them thee pasta with a bit of olive oil and pepper and cheese on top with the pancetta/guanciale

I gave to to my baby at 7m
