Looking for some advice or opinions

Hi there, 3+ years ago I was prescribed Estrogel to combat night sweats and hot flashes that I’d been suffering with. It turns out that my doctor was somehow unaware that I have my uterus and by error I was not prescribed progesterone in combination with the estrogen. This has caused a myriad of health issues for me. I have thickening of my uterine lining and I’ve been struggling with heavy bleeding. Last Thursday my doctor realized this error and has put me on Estrogel and progesterone. I’ve been supposedly referred to a gynaecologist and my doctor said she would see me in early June for a pap. Needless to say, I was quite shocked to learn that my problems stem from terrible medical care. I have fired my doctor and will look for a new one as soon as I can. Ontario has some funny rules about replacing your doctor. I’m worried. Looking for advice / opinions.

It seems in Ontario malpractice is when there is a permanent severe medical issue caused by the neglect. I’m hoping that I can recover. In January the doctor told me to stop taking the Estrogel. I told her I was going on holidays in February and was worried I’d have heavy bleeding. She wrote me a script for 30 days of Progesterone. I still had heavy bleeding while on my holiday and when I returned. It went on for 16 days before it lightened. It was only after my most recent call to her when I was back in Canada that she realized that I should not have been on Estrogel alone for all of these years. During that call, she told me to resume taking Estrogel and take a daily Progesterone pill with it so that’s what I’ve been doing for about a week now. She gave me a three month supply. My plan is to fire her, find a new doctor and get in for a consult asap, get referred as quickly as possible to a gynaecologist and start getting proper care.

I am on estrogel as well, though I do have an iud that release some progestin to protect the uterus. It has helped me with some perimenopause Al symptoms but not all. Better then nothing though. I hope you can get it fixed too.

Wow this seems a case of malpractice, so what are you doing now did you stop the estrogen?

@simona I don’t know. It was the nurse practitioner who prescribed initially but the script was repeated many, many times and I would have thought the doctor would oversee and check at some point. Also I spoke with the doctor herself several times about my bleeding. How could I have bleeding without a uterus? When she realized what had happened, last Thursday, she told me that she was very sorry, this never should have happened and she would be taking steps to ensure it never happens again and that I would be seeing her personally for all future care. It doesn’t change things for me though and that reassurance is too little, too late. Now I’m worried about my health, have no doctor and have to wait to try to get a replacement.
