I have a 2006 Sienna XLE and a 2005 Corolla LE.
@Sage Kudos to you! I have a 2009 Corolla LE with non stop issues. My boyfriend has tried fixing but it Cuts off when idle sometimes. Tried many things. Going on for over 3 years off and on😪 Do you have many issues with your Corolla? Which independent shops, if you recommend them?
Is it tripping codes?
I go to one that's close to my house, and over the years I've made friends with the guys that work there, I'm close to Richmond but not in Richmond, so I'm not gonna chance sending somebody out of their way, best thing for you to do is call all the shops within a 5 mile radius of your house start closer and then branch out and ask them if they allow you to bring your own parts (meaning they diag it and tell you what part it needs) and definitely read all the reviews. You don't want to go out of a 5 mile radius. That's my best advice honestly. My Corolla has codes for gross EVAP leak which is actually caused by the ECM recall. And definitely pay in cash, not with a card. Establish a repoire.
I don’t take mine to a dealership I take it to broad auto and tire! They are great, very honest on what actually need to replaced versus what a dealership tried to sell you
It does shake at idle, but that's because the computer thinks there's an EVAP leak. Once the recall is done, it should be fine, and if it's not, I'll do a smoke test on it.
Honestly though, your problem sounds like it's not getting fuel somewhere. Just based on experience with old Toyotas. I'd try getting somebody to clean your fuel injectors and replace your fuel filter. And then if those don't work, maybe look at your fuel pump, you can DIY it, it's under your back seat. Your back seat pops out
Usually with these dumb cars, it ends up being the dumbest most random easy thing.
It's almost always something really obvious like that with Yotas.
@Sage Thank you! I ended up buying my own diagnostic machine and the engine light currently has a p0171 code for Bank 1 System too lean and we think it’s a fuel thing too. I do feel like once I find out, I’m going to pissed because it’s something so simple. Over the years I’ve had more than one code show but this one has shown more consistent recently. We changed mass flow sensors, filters and tune up the last few times. I wasn’t aware of a recall unless it isn’t for mine. My boyfriend also said I should do smoke test. I will check🤔 just curious, why not pay with card? I appreciate all of the info!
@Erin exactly, Thank you!
That’s the one!
@Erin ok. I appreciate it!
I do my own maintenance most of the time, unless its due for inspection and maintenance at the same time then I have a trusted independent mechanic do it while it's there
