Help with Talking

My LO hasn’t picked up any words besides “dada” and she’s 16 months now. Any ideas what more we can do to help? She’s a very happy, but quiet babe and I’m concerned that she’s a late talker (similarly, I was a late talker but was in a bilingual household—not the case for my daughter) Anyone else in the same boat? I’ve been anxious about it and would love to hear from other moms!

Has she had any issues with multiple ear infections?

Ms Rachel helps a lot, my daughter is almost forming sentences.

@Brittany no ear infections and she seems to hear fine, but we’re getting her checked just in case

My little dude did the same thing and he just didn’t want to talk but we did introduce Ms. Rachel and it helps so much!

My oldest didn’t start speaking until 27 months due to multilingual family. We switched to English only and he picked up quickly. You can try that if you are stressed about it, otherwise they would speak later but multilingual.

@Eva sorry my post was confusing. She’s not being raised in a bilingual household, but I was!

We’ve just started Ms. Rachel to help with baby sign language. I can tell she has moments of frustration when she can’t communicate to us. So far I’ve only gotten her to sign “more” a couple of times!

What are you currently trying to help?

@MahliReading, talking to her, pointing at things and saying the words and Ms. Rachel sign language videos. We’re having her evaluated for speech delay in April but wanted to see if there’s something else we can do in the meantime!

My son only says "mama" and growls. He's said "dada" twice but is stubborn with getting him to repeat it. He is very good about listening and acknowledging when you speak, he points to objects and body parts when you ask. We have been reassured by our Dr that it's still normal and to not worry yet. Just keep working on sounding out words and talking him through what we do and what things are

Mine only says Mama, Dada, Hi, and Bye

My brother didn’t talk much as a toddler he’s 18 and still isn’t a man of very many words 😂. Miss Rachel will definitely help. My baby has been watching her for months. Miss Rachel teaches a lot. I’ve lost count of how many words she can say. And she teaches sign language so my baby signs and sometimes I have to google it 😂.

I would just be patient. Sometimes they work on other skills first. It doesn't mean they are not listening. My son barely talked and last week he said about 30 different new words.

My son is 16 months and only a has a couple words- miss Rachel is helping a lot :)

@Renee I second this. My daughter was barely talking and we started watching Ms Rachel and I would sing and talk along with the videos now she's doing so great and picking up on so much
