Autism

I’m pretty sure my baby is autistic.. At 9 months she does not babble or respond to her name. I have just noticed she has also started twirling her feet. She has frequent meltdowns. It has just dawned on me that at 9 months this is not normal/typical behaviour. I never, ever imagined I would have a child with a developmental delay. Does anyone have or know anyone with autism? I’m worried I don’t know what the future holds 😣 I know some people might say this is too early to tell still but it is very obvious for mums who spend all day with their baby and look at other babies and can see theirs is different .

I knew my son was autistic from birth. Everyone said its too soon to tell but he was my 4th baby. I knew he was different. He's now 3.5yrs and diagnosed x

My older son we knew at that age it was obvious but he had other traits too. Even if they are autistic they will still grow and progress it’ll be ok ❤️

Having seen in the family - there were no obvious signs until post 1 year in that instance. I appreciate it's hard not to overthink, but as others have said - do get some professional support and assessment as babies do develop differently and what you've noticed isn't necessarily unusual for a 9 month old.

Equally so, much of what you describe is appropriate baby behaviour. Based on 26 years of experience in child development, I'd suggest giving your child a bit more time. If you are in the UK there is a check with the health visitor at around 12 months so you could raise your concerns then.

To be honest I really admire you for realizing your baby may have something. My friend son didn't respond to his name, not saying mama, dada, not pointing, was fascinating with wheels, rotating toys, twisting the wrist, fingers, switch lights on off. Crawling at 1 years old. And I told the mum and dad but they deny it, they say everything is ok , he is only a boy.
