Gender on paper for gender reveal NHS

Hi all! At your 20 week scan with the NHS have any of you asked the sonographer to write down the gender on paper so you can pass it to someone else to do a gender reveal for you? How common is it for them to refuse (I’ve heard it does happen)? What do you do instead if they do refuse? Can I take another person (my sister) in with me as well as my husband?

Depends on the hospital. I had to call my friend so the sonographer could speak to her, as that was the only way they would do it.

I’ve never known anyone get it written down for them at an NHS scan - they usually refused in case it is incorrect and people try to sue them (yes it does happen). Usually once in a blue moon they’ll write it down for you. They usually state to you that the scan isn’t to specify the gender but to do a number of health checks and therefore they won’t write it down etc. They’ll either tell you out loud or not at all usually.

They wrote it down for me and actually made it like a cute card. Don't see any reason they should refuse to do it 😁
