Wow ok honestly that's scary to me but I guess that's how it goes. Thank you guys
I would try and get private scans else where just for peace of mind, I wouldn’t feel comfortable not seeing the baby considering the history. It’ll only stress you out more which is not good, try and look for affordable places near you!!
No more after 20 wks (or whatever week have the Anatomy scan done, some don't get til 21 or 22 wks) is normal. The only time they do them after the anatomy scan is if they don't get all the measurements needed on the anatomy scan if baby is not cooperating or if you are labeled as high risk and they determine you need additional growth scans. My first I only got one ultrasound which was at 20 wks (21 yrs ago. He will be 21 at the end of Aug). My second I had two. One at 20 wks and one at 40 wks (wanted to check his size). (He will be 18 in December). My third I had two. One at 7 wks and one at 20 wks. (She will be 14 in December). My 4th I was considered high risk (due to age and two miscarriages prior). I had 6 with her. 8 wks, 20 wks, 24wks(get rest of anatomy measurements wasn't able to get at 20wk) 28wks, 32wks and 36wks. This time I got first at 6 wks, then one at 12wks, next will be. At 20wks and then will have one at 28, 32 and 36 wks as well. I am considered high risk again due to my age.
Blu Blossom does them for free. U can go there and get ultrasound
@Heather not everyone lives in the same area as you where there are places that offer free ultrasounds outside of their regular appointments with their OB. I have never heard of Blu Blossom myself. There are none in my area, I live in Missouri.
@Kristen excuse me I thought she was in Houston. I was only giving my feedback.
That’s normal here but I agree that I didn’t like it. I was able to convince them for a later one due to “my anxiety” and because I wasn’t able to get any good photos. They let me schedule one thankfully.
I went through IVF (so my story is a bit different), but since 9 weeks (which is when you typically leave the IVF clinic & start visiting the OB-GYN), I have had an appointment every month. Not only do I go to my OB-GYN, but I also go to an Advanced Fetal Medicine specialist (because of IVF & my age), so I see doctors 2x/month at this point (oh, btw - I’m 20 weeks). My doctor (OB-GYN) was very clear with me that after 28 weeks, I’ll be coming 2x/month and then after 36 weeks I’ll be in every week!!! If i were in your situation, i would get a 2nd opinion from another OB-GYN just to understand the standard of care! It doesn’t sound right to me either!!
@Heather where is blu blossom located? I can’t find it

@Heather thank you 🥹
I was also told the same thing. The standard is dating scan & 20 week anatomy, and growth scans after if there's a reason for it. I had scans at 12, 20, 24, 28, 32 & was scheduled for 36 weeks(I ended up being induced at 36+0 so I didn't get that scan) but typically unless there's a concern, they don't do any additional scans after your anatomy.
Standard of care in the USA is one early on - the dating US, it depends on when you figure out you are pregnant but ideally happens around 10 weeks. Then the 20 week anatomy US to make sure the baby is growing appropriately and doesn't have any concerning anatomical issues like heart defects etc. The only reason to get additional US is if you are high risk and they are monitoring more closely for growth and development. If you feel less movement or the heart beat is concerning on doppler they will get another US. If baby is measuring bigger or smaller then expected they will also get another one. This is what current guidelines in the states recommend.
