Do you need to pre wash newborn clothes if they're hand me downs that have already been washed?

I know it's 'best practice' to wash them but since they're not straight from a factory and they were given to me clean and washed already don't really want to wash everything again if it's not necessary?

@Christabelle in that case I probably wouldn't re-wash. My mum gave me a bunch of my brother's old clothes for my first and washed them for me, and I didn't bother re-washing.

@Laticha yes it's from friends who had babies a few months before me! And I actually have a dog so the dog thing is gonna be a given in this household 😅

@Telina thanks they're from friends who recently had babies so I do know them, and there's no smell because they use the sensitive fragrance free detergent!

If you don’t know them personally I would re-wash them all. I mean some people have dogs and allow them to be close to clothes even if they’re washed. But yeah if you think they’ve been washed and stored properly before given to you then no need.

Ditto. For me it was using my preferred detergent and smell…
