Baby refusing breastfeed

Hi ladies, I’m so devastated right now. My baby is 22 weeks and she’s been refusing breastfeeding for the past few weeks. She looks away and cries her lungs out and it’s upsetting me so much thinking what if i don’t build as close bond with her as I should have if she’s been breastfed longer. Happy to know your thoughts/ experiences.

I agree, if you've been doing a mix it can really confuse matters as your breasts will also only produce what the babies needs if you are solely breastfeeding. I would say if you've been giving bottles do give the shields a try and try to stick to breast only rather than giving bottle. If you're still having problems it's worth speaking to a lactation consultant

Are you making sure to pace feed your baby and a slow teat. You want the bottle not to be so much easier than the breast. Also when baby gets to 4 months they become a lot more efficient at breastfeeding and a lot more into looking around. So might not need to feed for that long. They also might need to be fed in a dark room with no distractions. It will pass, my little one did that and if she didn’t want the breast I wouldn’t force her and she would eat when at home. Google nursing strikes and get their advice or call the national breastfeeding hotline. Have you been bottle feeding breastmilk or formula? If formula you may need to spend some time getting your breastmilk up again

@Karina did you get him back on it or switched to bottle feed? Mine is currently bottle feeding. I keep looking it up on the internet and it says breastfeeding strengthens the bond between the baby and the mother and it frustrates me so much 😞

Have you tried feeding her with nipple shields on? If you have been doing a mix of feeding bottle and breast it can sometimes cause issues. It might be worth seeing if she'll take with nipple shields on as more like a bottle? X
