Should I wake my baby?

My LG is 3 weeks old and has been asleep for almost 5 hours now! The midwife said I no longer had to wake her for feeds as she’s above birth weight and gaining nicely but just thinking she won’t sleep at night at this rate! I also don’t want to wake her if it will make her grouchy though…

Newborns typically sleep 15.5hrs out of a 24hr period until they start having more wake windows as they grow older or so I was told by my midwife. My little girl is 5 weeks today and tends to sleep majority of the day but then also sleeps through the night with no issues, just waking for a feed at 2am then again at 6am. As long as their above birth weight you’ll be fine to leave them sleeping for a longer stretch. We used to wake for a feed after 4 hours max but ended up over feeding her because she wasn’t actually hungry..if they’re hungry they’ll wake and let you know!

When ours was a couple of weeks and not feeding well the midwife told us no longer than 4 hours between feeds buy he's 4 weeks now and feeding well and gaining weight fine so the health Visitor said not to wake him if he's doing well and putting on weight and that he would wake when he was hungry

I personally wouldn’t. I’ve been told sleep aids sleep so don’t worry about your little one not sleeping because they’ve had a big rest. Just be prepared they’ll probably want a big feed when they wake
