Transition to toddler bed

I need some tips or pointers- my son is about 21 months old and was doing great in his crib and we are expecting our second in August so we decided to get him a toddler bed. For the past couple of weeks we have been working on getting him to stay in his room at night but has come into our room to get me almost every night. We don’t want to have to back track and put him into his crib again to start over so I was wondering if there was anything that’s worked for you all that I could try or a way to keep him in his room/stay in his bed when he wakes up at night? Thank you in advance!

I’ve heard some people put a baby stair gate on their room initially to show them that their bedroom is the equivalent of a larger scale cot. They can walk around the room and move about but they have to get back into bed eventually and go back to sleep. I think it doesn’t take too long then until you can remove the stair gate and just have it on the stairs for safety. You may get the odd night he walks into your room but then you can always go back to having a stair gate on the door. You can set up a camera in their room so you hear if he needs you. But friends of mine just cleared the floor and baby proofed everywhere in the room so he couldn’t hurt himself too much x

Thank you! I have been reading and a lot of things said to try a baby gate on their door. We have a camera monitor and a separate sound monitor (just in case the Wi-Fi goes out on the camera) but we have just been closing his door at night. I have baby proofed everything in there I just didn’t know if the baby gate on the doorway was the next suggested step. Thank you for your insight!
