Recommendation on blood tests

Hi Everyone! I know sadly we're all in this group for a reason and so sorry for all your losses - I know its so traumatic emotionally and physically. I wanted to share something that I found through my own journey after miscarriage and I have found passing this knowledge on has helped a couple of other ladies too. Following my MC (blighted ovum) last year I had to have 2 blood transfusions but even when I got into hospital they made a comment on how aneamic I was (where it couldn't have happened so quickly because of the blood loss). Now, I know when you get to a certain point in pregnancy these levels are checked but I actually realised particularly in the UK we don't have annual well-woman checks etc so when alot of the time you start trying of even during early pregnancy you have no idea how your levels are. Anyway, 6 months following my miscarriage I asked the doctors for a blood test to check my iron, b12, folate and thyroid. It turns out I had really bad aneamia which they think has gone on for years (I thought my symptoms were anxiety!) and the team were amazed I had even fallen pregnant in the first place (because you stop ovulating if too low) but also having read up a lot it turns out it can be a cause of miscarriage. I'll never know what caused my MC however I think it is worth getting your bloods checked if you are looking to try again etc as you never know! Hugs! X

Thankyou, I’d of never known this x

@Karina so pleased you've found it helpful 😘

@Holly so sorry to hear this. I had a similar situation and after 2 miscarriages I found out I had Pernicious Anaemia which is an inability to absorb B12 through food. I now have regular injections and fell pregnant 2 months later and currently 13 weeks. Good luck on your journey xx

@Kathryn thank you so much for sharing that and again shows the importance of having those checks! So pleased to hear everything is going well now x

I never knew this, and I've actually just booked to see gp this morning to check my bloods because I feel I'm deficient in something (extremely tired at the moment) so this has just given me the encouragement I needed to push for the blood test! Thank you for sharing x

@Chelsea pleased to be able to help :)
