Refusing bottle. Help?

Hello ladies. I’ve been trying to get my LO to transition into bottle feeding but it’s been super difficult. He’s lost a little bit of weight because my supply has significantly decreased out of the blue (I’m 4 months postpartum). It’s so heartbreaking because I want to make sure he feeds properly so when I have to supplement he doesn’t take it whatsoever. I am working on increasing my supply, however, anyone have tips on what I can do so that he can accept a bottle? Thank you

Following bc I’m in the same boat. My son stopped accepting the bottle at 4 months… I try offering at least one everyday with very little luck. I have now started introducing sippy/straw cups but he’s still too young to take a full feed from it If your baby needs to suppliant bc of weight I did see something where they offer a syringe filled with milk not sure if that can work into things are figured out

Which bottle brand did you try? It could just be a matter of finding the one he likes. Not all bottles are the same. My daughter likes the Philips Avent one, apparently it’s the closest shape of a real nipple, and was recommended to me by a lactation consultant (otherwise I wouldn’t have known). I’ve heard of people trying a few different ones to see which one baby will like. Good luck!

I don’t have tips for bottle acceptance but if you need a third option besides breast or bottle you could try a “lactation aid”, also called a “supplementary nursing system”. Basically it’s a line that has one end in a bottle of formula and the other goes alongside your nipple into baby’s mouth. The idea is they get formula while protecting breastfeeding by stimulating the nipple to help keep supply and reinforcing that the breast is where you get food (not the bottle). You can get disposable ones from a lactation consultant. Hakaa and Medela both sell reusable ones. Good luck - I know first hand the heartache around feeding a little one when things don’t go right. I hope it works out quickly for you!

I had the same issue. My supply also dipped around 4 months (I think this is common) and my baby started refusing a bottle around the same time. I think it had something to do with the sleep regression. My supply did come back after 4 months. I ended up trying a couple different bottles until I found one she accepted. You could also try spoon or cup feeding. I did that when my baby was first born and I didn't have much of a supply.
