Bath time

My son has all of a sudden become terrified of the bath/shower. He usually loves it but the past week he won't sit down (he's got a bath mat because he exceeds the max weight of most seats), he screams and cries, and tries to climb and claw out. Its difficult to get him clean without him slipping about and risking an injury. We've tried bubbles, toys, less water, more water. Could anyone offer any advice please? I want him to enjoy his baths again and make them safe for him too

No helpful advice I’m afraid but just to say you’re not alone - our little girl has literally just become terrified too out of nowhere - baths were her favourite thing and overnight she refuses to sit down, clings to me and screams from start to finish 😫 I’m just persisting and trying to make it more fun - but I know how tough it is!

My little one has literally just come out the other side of this - it probably last two weeks and come out of no where. No advice I’m afraid we just kept trying new “fun” things in the bath. Not sure if it helped or if the phase just passed xx

My daughter did this about this age (she is now 4) and we just keep persisting and one day she just sat down again.

Yes we had this for a few weeks. Caused by him having nappy rash and it stinging. We got over it by running a shallow bath and playing games whilst in it to distract. So we’d get a bucket and ask him to put all of his bath toys inside it. Turned it into a really fun time and within a few days he was over the fear xx

I was going to suggest getting in the bath with him, or if you have someone around who you don't mind seeing you in the bath (or wear a swimming costume!), you could go in on your own whilst they watch and you can show him how you are safe and enjoying it? Xx
