Oh . I still ate it when pregnant. :/ . I find all this can't eat this etc or that makes it worse. Being a first time mum to my first I was picky didn't eat anything stuck to the rules . She is now a horrid eater very fussy . Second baby ate anything and he loves his food . I don't know if it's coincidence.. What do you think mums in Japan do lol . Xx
This is my first pregnancy and I don’t tend to follow the “rules” to what you can and can’t eat! I’ve eaten salmon, I usually have my steak blue but if I do eat it I go for medium rare now and my little one is all healthy!
Salmon sashimi is my absolute favourite and the craving is VERY high. As much as sushi grade is safe I'm still too scared to have it as the NHS says to avoid raw fish. Being pregnant for the first time maybe I am being somewhat OTT with the do's and don'ts. I know many mummy's who did eat it through pregnancy and everything was absolutely fine!
@Hannah they totally eat sushi and sashimi. But also they have a different quality fish …?
@Alisha same😩 but the confidence the fishmonger was talking with made it very tempting for me hahah He did say he would not recommend tuna sashimi. But specifically raw salmon is apparently safe according to them. 🙆🏻♀️
I think tuna is quite high in mercury so maybe that's why 🤷🏽♀️ it's interesting because if this was another country it would be deemed as completely safe. So whatever you're most comfortable with! X
I am almost looking for someone to tell me yes thats safe and i will be on my way to my fishmongers 😃
@Alisha yes that too, spoke about mercury too.
The current NHS advice is not to. But, when I had my son three years ago it was considered fine. I’d say just be careful about quality and don’t eat it all the time!
@Caroline interesting!!
It's my first pregnancy and I have eaten smoked salmon and serrano ham a couple of times since pregnant. I previously froze them for at least a week and under -20°
The only reason fish is considered unsafe now is because of the quality of the ocean life now Everything is filled with so much mercury But I ate it just like once a month kinda thing
I would eat it. I've had raw fish/sushi both my pregnancies. Obviously I'm not having like gas station sushi but I don't see why it would be bad to get it from someplace reputable.
NHS Wales day eating sushi and raw fish is fine because it’s high quality and frozen like your fishmonger said. Whereas NHS England days avoid… so if you lived in Wales you could?🙃 I have eaten high quality sushi and so far so good 😁😅

There’s a really good book called ‘expecting better’ when an economist has gone through all the data and studies for the various pregnancy recommendations such as what to eat and not to eat which gives you the info needed to draw your own conclusions on what you feel comfortable with! I found it really informative and has made me feel very comfortable with the decisions I’ve made as I understand the evidence based risks
@Natalie i will move back to Wales!
@Amy thank you! does it cover the sashimi topic? 😁
Yes!
Viva WALES!
So as long as its *Farmed* salmon and super fresh of course 🙌🏼
I have not eaten any since learning that I am pregnant. I would avoid, just to be safe :)
