Infant Dyschezia; at my wits end..

My son (5 weeks old) is going through what we’re pretty sure is infant dyschezia. This has been going on almost two weeks now. We have tried EVERYTHING! Bicycle kicks, infant massage, warm baths, gripe water, prune juice, gas drops and nothing is helping. I have not done the Frida baby Windi or anything that involves me physically trying to put something in his rectum to poop as we were advised not to do that as this could delay him trying to learn to go on his own. He’s not even napping during the day anymore and will only sleep in short increments at night which the lack of sleep is very concerning for me as he truly needs this. We were advised by the pediatrician this is normal and we can send in three dirty diapers to check for any allergies but I don’t see how that’s going to help us.. I don’t know what else to do, I’m breaking down every night because it’s just a vicious cycle of him not sleeping due to constantly grunting/trying to push and then resulting him being overtired. Any advice is appreciated; I’m so burnt out and ready to just throw in the towel.

The windi is totally safe as long as it isn’t used frequently. You do want them to go on their own but using it once or twice in a pinch is a life saver. My daughter had so much gas as a newborn and we used it a small handful of times and now she’s a year and has always been a great pooper, so much that I call her pooper sometimes 🤣

have u tried changing formula? my baby was the same on aptamil.. she wouldnt poo for days and would get red in the face and angry pushing to poo.. i changed to cow and gate and shes much better but still only goes every other day

You can try a chiropractor that works on babies. My LO went within 24 hrs whenever I took her to the chiro. Also, warm and cold misses or juice/milk. Give him warm milk followed by cold juice (prune or apple) or vice versa. And I absolutely would help her out by putting the windi or gasoline in her rectum if it it's been days and she's miserable.

@Kristen Good to know! I did purchase them off just because it did come highly recommended I just havent used it yet!

@Sian Not yet, I’m curious to get his stool tested and see if he has any type of intolerances, right now we combo feed so he really is only getting formula at night but I will look into thank you!

@Niya Thank you! He eventually goes, we get one to two blowouts a day but it takes us awhile to get there!

My babies 👶🏽 have been like that too. 😩 we changed them to soy formula and it helped them. As my last one got older she would get nervous when we were potty training her and would hold it. It was so bad I needed to use an enema to help her go. Now she’s potty trained and goes every day.

I completely understand how horrible it is what you're going through and how helpless you feel. Our son had severe dyschezia from week one and we tried EVERYTHING to help him (aside from the Windi/stimulation as this will prolong their issue) and spent a small fortune seeing private pediatrics, trips to GPs and even A&E... I wish I had great advice to give you but unfortunately the only thing that helped us was time. He grunted, strained, then cried continually for weeks and weeks that we had to start sleeping with headphones in. Then honestly the week he turned 3 months old it just suddenly stopped. It was like something clicked and he worked out how to 💩 Sometimes he does give an odd grunt when he's going for a poop but it's seconds long and that's it. Hopefully he will get the hang of it soon too 🩵

@Cleo Thank you! It just breaks my heart because I don’t want him to be in pain! I just hope he figures it out soon. ❤️

@Jessica he will! Just give it time, I know it's overwhelming to hear but I promise you it goes by quickly. Also I found it reassuring that every doctor and specialist said there wasn't any pain, they just grunt and cry from frustration and also their body trying to find a way to use their muscles. ❤️‍🩹

My LO went through the same thing for about 3 weeks. It was so sad to see her suffer. We tried placing a warm wash cloth between her butt cheeks to help relax her anal muscles. Only did this maybe 3 times. Now she’s pooping like a champ! Ultimately, she just had to figure it out but I totally get how hard it is to see them go through this. Hang in there mama! ❤️

@Cleo really no pain ?? I doubt that surely. Maybe they just say it to mums to help them calm down. But I hope so because it sounds terrible

Is this a problem that they are constipated or that they can't manage or don't know how to push it out?? Sounds so horrible those poor bubs. My suggestions are probably going to be a problem but give water and get bub to sleep on tummy or be on tummy time. It will help calm the tummy. Also try tummy massages in a circular motion to stimulate movement. From left to right in the bottom half of stomach and in a circular motion gently.
