CMPA & reflux

my son is 6months and we’re trialing aptamil pepti 1 for cmpa as he has awfuk reflux and gaviscon didn’t do a thing. we’ve been using it about 3 weeks now, and he’s sick a lot less, and isn’t being sick immediately after feeds anymore, but is still sick 30mins-3 hours after feeds and sometimes quite a few times. Sometimes he won’t be sick at all until 3 hours after when he’s asleep, other times he’ll be sick between 5-10 times between 30mins-1hr after a bottle. Is it possible to have CMPA and another cause for reflux at the same time? as he is better on the formula but not completely sorted?

He might need a completely cows milk protein free formula. My son was put on Nutramigen which is similar to Pepti 1. We saw an improvement with his symptoms but not a complete resolution so now he is on puramino which is a completely cows milk protein free milk and he has been prescribed omeprazole for his silent reflux. It’s only been a few days so hard to say if it’s better yet but I am Hopeful

@Emily Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t know there was a difference. He’s had bad reflux since he was born, was exclusively breastfed for 8 weeks, then one bottle at night (bevause he also had a tongue tie which we didn’t know until he was 6 weeks & wasn’t cut til 9 so my supply wasn’t doing great & he wasn’t gaingjn weight fast enough. ) He was given gaviscon, which didn’t help him at all, he was still being sick like thick & smelly. Since starting the pepti 1 he’s still being sick, but not immediately after anymore & it’s definitely not as nasty as before. he was also a bit constipated before and that’s been better since on this formula & sleeping better & less unsettled now, but as I said he’s still quite sick after a few hours. So hopefully something can be done about it, he never had mucous in poo or bad rashes just very mild eczema so i didn’t consider CMPA before the doctors mentioned it. Im thinking he could have a mild case but not sure how it works, maybe reflux too but idrk

@Maddison sounds like you’ve been on quite a journey bless him. Yeh the pepti 1 js a hydrolysed formula so there is still traces of cows milk it has just been broken down to try to trick the gut but unfortunately some Babies still do react to it. The next stage would be an amino acid based formula like puramino or Neocate. This has no traces of any allergens in it at all. It may be worth talking to your GP and seeing if you can try him out on one of those and see if his reflux improves. Gaviscon didn’t help our little boy either. I am Hoping the omeprazole makes a difference x
