infant dyschezia?

Does anyone have any experience with infant dyschezia? My son Alfie is 10 weeks tomorrow and has struggled to poop on his own pretty much everyday now for a month. We did speak to the doctor and they said that it’s just his stomach muscles and bum trying to learn to work together and that I would go away soon, but that was about 3 weeks ago. We do bicycle legs and massages, warm baths… everything!! He’s so uncomfortable. Today was a bad day. He’s been straining and uncomfy since about 4am and he’s just managed to poo after doing everything we could to help him. He screamed the house down, pooped and then instantly went into a deep sleep so he was absolutely knackered from trying all day😞. Any help/advice would be so appreciated as it’s horrible to watch him struggle like he is. Especially as it wakes him up religiously every morning, so he’d sleep longer at night if it wasn’t for being so uncomfortable!!

My daughter went through this. The only thing that helped her was prune juice. Something like an oz a day, but maybe Google it or talk to the doctor again. What he's experiencing, and what my daughter experienced, is not normal.

@Samantha it’s awful!! His poo always looks completely normal so he’s not technically constipated, but he just can’t do it and it’s so sad to watch. Is that the same for you, with regards to her poo being normal ?x

This sounds like my little boy at that age. He would start straining early in the morning and could take all day to eventually go. I found infacol helped a bit. Also holding him into a sitting position as though he was on a potty with his knees up a bit seemed to help too. We used to sit him up like this in the nursing cushion every morning to help him go. Our doctor said the same about his body just learning how to digest, and they don’t know how to push to poo effectively yet. It’s awful to watch but he just grew out of it all of a sudden. Hope your little one improves soon

We went through this with my daughter from birth until about 9 weeks, it was heart breaking to watch. But one day something just clicked and now she always goes once a day usually when she is relaxed and taking her bottle. It used to drive me insane watching her in discomfort , but literally nothing you can do until they learn the skill themselves! 😞

We were on the verge of my little one being diagnosed with this. We tried everything, we struggled with consolation and formula until 4 months old. The only thing that helped was prune/apple juice, probiotics, and changing formula You could also looks into foot nerve massages for constipation ( I forget the actual name of it) Or seeing a chiropractor! Going to a chiropractor for your little one can help with soooo many things

Breastfed babies can go up to 10 days without a bowel movement and formula fed 7. So not constipated until then, infant dysfazia is when they appear uncomfortable groaning but aren’t actually. Do your massages and as long as poo is yellow and soft while he may be uncomfortable nothing to worry about

My little one had this. The midwives and health visitors told me that because his poo was normal and not as though he was constipated we just had to get on with it basically. I didn’t find anything really helped to be honest but it will get better! I can’t remember roughly when it stopped now but I remember feeling like it was forever at the time. It was horrible to watch and know I couldn’t do anything to help. The thing that I could never fathom was that the first few days after he was born, he was pooing fine!

My son made the same noises and eventually it worked out, takes a bit but it’s really normal and then until about 6 months old he would grunt as he pooped but then stopped for awhile and now he grunts on the toilet since I’m potty training him.

We went through it and it suddenly disappeared after 2 months. Give it time.

We’re going through it and my girl is 11 weeks my friends girl went through it until 5 months. Unfortunately there’s really nothing you can do until their bodies figure it out. I do still do bicycles every day

Biogaia probiotic!

Sounds like my baby at that age. However, she is 10m now and poops without us knowing. We just smell it and know. And yes, it took her a long time to learn

We went through this with our girl. First off, if he is having normal poos, not hard or dry when he does go, it's likely not constipation. His brain, tummy, and bum are all trying to learn to work together. Personally, I did not and would not give my girl any juice at that age without ok from her pediatrician. This is what I would do with our girl. I would sit/lean her against my legs when I had them up on the couch. This would put her at an angle, not laying flat but not in a standing position. I would massage her feet and calves, making sure to massage each individual toe, the arch of her foot, and pressure about halfway up her calf. Think pressure points. Once my hands made it from her feet up to her knees, i would do some frog legs, windshield wiper moves, and rotate her hips left, then right. I would repeat 2 or 3 times. Another helpful tool was her bouncer. It had her laying at an angle, not flat. The bouncing motion seemed to help. He'll get through it. It just takes time. Good luck, Momma.

I had this with my son. I tried everything.. gripe water, infacol, took him to an osteopath, Colief, changing the milk and god knows what else and actually none of it worked or made a difference. I kept being told he would grow out of it.. and one day he just stopped. It’s soo hard as I hardly managed to sleep with the noise he was making but be reassured that it will stop! 😅
