If there are any complications you want to be in UCLH. They are extremely professional, calm and great at triage. If shit gets real they might send you to uclh from portland anyways as they are better equipped. Mat ward is not so glam, but I heard the birth centre is fairly comfortable. Plus if it all goes well you can check out pretty fast. I had emergency c section and I was out in 36 hrs. Hospital food wasn't even that bad.
I had my baby at UCLH in March and they were really good and supportive, especially with breastfeeding. Compared to my first baby, where I gave birth in SE london, it was a significant improvement. They put my baby on the billi-blanket straight away whereas with my first they waited for her levels to rise before taking action. The only negative I would say about UCLH is that they could communicate a bit better and the food 👎🏾. When I would ring the button, they would take a little while to come but there is a lot of patients on the ward, so it was understandable. Also getting discharged also took ages but they said that it was due to other patient emergencies.
I recommend UCL. Had both my babies there and they were spectacular. I was clear with them that whatever happens I need to be told what is going on at all times and they understood and told me step by step what wasn’t working and what we need to do next through my first birth. Loved my nursing team
Thank you all so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I had my breech baby at UCLH and they were amazing (we also had a 4 day stay due to jaundice and I felt really supported). I had my second at home under UCLH care, and they were also brilliant. Highly recommended ☺️
I had my second baby at UCLH in February Everything was great until the aftercare! It was terrible I was getting no help when I needed , they accepted me to do everything myself it was terrible, the discharge took forever!
I would not recommend UCLH. I had a traumatic birth and had to spend 5 days at the hospital after. Neonatal is amazing but the post natal care isn’t good. It’s also incredibly disappointing that the earliest birth reflections appointment they scheduled for us is Jan 2024… Overall UCLH felt like a baby factory. We never saw the same midwife and I had to labour in the waiting room for 4 hours even though my waters had broken and there was a risk of infection (which I ended up getting) In hindsight, I would have gone private or picked a smaller hospital like Whittington
I had my baby at UCH in April. He was born under emergency conditions and the team were absolutely fantastic. I was also really impressed with the post natal care I received and would highly recommend. I’m sorry to read that other mamas didn’t have a good experience with the hospital, I hope that you have been supported to make a complaint or speak to PALS at the hospital as this is how change to care is implemented!
I had my son at UCH last January in the birth centre and had a really great experience throughout birth and post natal care.I’m due in 7 weeks and planning to give birth there again. I think honestly wherever you choose, there will be a range of reviews as each experience is so different. Ultimately just make sure your birth partner knows exactly what you want/expect so they can advocate for you when you might be unable to speak for yourself.
Portland hopital is miles better than UCL in terms of care and especially childbirth, furthermore Portland Hospital is a private one if I’m not mistakes. UCL is more of a learners hospital so more for Junior Dr’s as it’s a University hospital. I personally had a bad experience in UCL they got something severely wrong on my medical records with regards to my physical health. I would say Portland that’s where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had their baby!
My baby was born at UCLH two months agon. I highly recommend UCLH.
