What’s the midwives brew?

Midwives brew, also known as the “German labor cocktail,” is a popular tea blend that is often recommended to pregnant women at the end of their pregnancy. This mixture is thought to have originated in Europe and has been used by midwives for centuries. Midwives brew is used to help with cervical ripening. This is the process of thinning, dilating, and softening the cervix so your baby can come out. It is also used to stimulate the muscles in the uterus and help them contract. These contractions are what help you push your baby out.

@Shay Vaughn🫶🏾

@Anita what does it consist of?

@Anita thank you

@Anita would it work okish still if I don’t add the castor oil?

@Em I’m looking into that now cause I was thinking of not using the castor oil

@Em I did some research it saying castor oil is the main active ingredient and that will make your uterus contract and go into labor it just helps to jumpstart labor I will call my OBGYN tomorrow and ask them is it safe cause I will be making this drink on Friday

I was told caster oil is dangerous because it passes to the baby and goes through them,causing them to pass meconium...

@𝓗𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓮𝔂 𝓡𝓪𝓮 I’ve heard that but it’s very rare I’ve heard so many success stories and the longer the baby stay in I have a higher chance of her passing meconium babies start to develop there first poop at week 38 of pregnancy and I am now 38 weeks and 4 days. I’m going to give it a try

My daughter was successfully born using castor oil, no issues and a quick labor/delivery.☺️

I haven’t. Unless my midwife decides to induce me.. I’m waiting it all out. I’m planning a water home birth and just waiting for my baby to be ready to come out. I’m trusting my body, my baby and the process.. and if anything, I will be free birthing if I have to. I just don’t want to force anything and my baby just wasn’t ready. I’m already 40+ 5 so we’ll see ✨ just know you got this and listen to your body. If you don’t want to have a c-section, you don’t have to. If you don’t have a doula to advocate for you, I’d recommend you get one. There’s many programs that help get you a doula for free. ✨

@Tay , I agree with this to a point. Sometimes though a baby just won’t engage to start labor, and that can be really dangerous. Once they reach a certain point in the womb, they’ll start having bowel movements. This happened to a friend of mine, and it was awful. I won’t share the details, but it wasn’t good. 😕

@Tay I have a doula already she told me I should do it I will speak with my OBGYN today and letting them know i will be doing this the main purpose of the brew is to make you have a little diarrhea which will make your uterus contract and it will jump start your labor. My baby is full term already I will definitely make a post once my baby gets here. I’ve been doing everything and still no dilation I refuse to wait until 40 weeks like I did with my son his fluids was getting low, he was in distressed and he had passed meconium and my water broke on its own.

@Terra Cutchall how was the castle oil? Was your contractions horrible?

@Anita , the castor oil was far better then my two previous inductions with Pitocin! It worked quickly and honestly my contractions were easily managed with just breathing.

@Terra Cutchall ok good to hear I’m doing the midwives brew tomorrow and I have to use 2 tbs of castor oil

@Anita , as long as your dilated and thinned out, it works very well. I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. ☺️

@Terra Cutchall I’m not dilated at all I had my OBGYN appt this past Tuesday and she said my cervix was still closed I’ve been getting contractions and Braxton hicks everyday I have a feeling I’m going to pass the 40 weeks

@Anita , I’d use the castor oil with caution if you aren’t dilated or thinned out at all. Only because it can cause the baby to have a bowel movement in your uterus. I’ve heard that happens generally when you are not dilated and drink the castor oil.

@Terra Cutchall ok thank you!

@Anita you’re welcome! Good luck!!☺️

@Anita Hey any update , did it work , and did he poop ?

I did the drink and 4 hrs later I started having contractions that were 5 mins apart I got to the hospital I still wasn’t dilated I was there for 6 hr no dilation only contractions so they sent me home. I was only 50% effaced and she did not poop in my stomach. When I got home I was having contractions once or twice an hour and they were painful for a week went for my weekly appt and still No dilation I couldn’t deal with the pain any more it felt so ripe down there every time I got Braxton hicks I scheduled a repeat c section on may 18th. @Jojo

@Jojo
