Induction at QUEH

Hi ladies! Looking for some advice. I am getting induced at the queen Elizabeth hospital on Monday. Just looking to hear some people’s experiences of how long it took (obviously I know everyone’s Labour is different) what happened with your birthing partner and are you able to leave the ward to walk about the hospital? Just looking for some advice really as I’m quite anxious. I don’t like hospitals and the thought of being stuck in a hospital for days isn’t appealing. TIA x

@Erin How long did they keep you in for after your section, if you don’t mind me asking?x

I had my son last August when there were still some restrictions in place. We went in 10am Sunday. Had monitoring/chat re options. Got balloon inserted at 1pm qnd after further monitoring went home. Told unless comes out itself come back 1pm next day. Balloon came away itself 0245. So went in. Was in MAU till 7am being monitored then a room in labour suite came available. Had drip/waters broken 8sm. I got to 4cm before needing an emergency section at 1255pm. My son was showing signs of distress and had card round his neck We were discharged 26hrs later

Thanks very much ladies for the info! Would of rather the balloon induction but because I’m high risk I’m not allowed. Hate hospitals so this gives me some reassurance xx

I was induced at the QUEH in March this year. Went in at 2pm on the Sunday and had the balloon fitted. Was back home by 5pm on the Sunday evening. As above, I was told to come back on the Monday at 1pm unless the balloon fell out beforehand. The balloon did fall out by itself but it was 11am on the Monday so just went back at 1pm since it was fairly close. It was then just a case of waiting for a room in the Labour suite. My husband was allowed to stay with me until 10pm and we were even allowed to go for a walk around the hospital grounds as the midwife advised she would give me a ring should a room become available. Nothing came up on the Monday unfortunately but first thing Tuesday morning I was advised I would be going down to the Labour Suite. My waters were broken around 11:30am and I was put on the drip - my daughter arrived at 16:49. We were discharged early afternoon on the Wednesday. Hope that helps ☺️

I had an emergency C-section in March in the QUEH on a Wednesday morning and I was at home at Thursday afternoon (first time mum). Things what they look for when they decide if you can go home: can you walk? ( I got up 6 hours after the section), can you pee/go to the toilet, obviously normal check ups like blood result, blood pressure etc, can you look after your baby and can you feed the baby? I’m breastfeeding so they checked if she is latching on fine. They also check the baby. Since everything was fine for us, we could go home early. I was a bit anxious about the hospital too but honestly it’s not as bad as you think :)

I was induced at QEUH in March and it went so well. I started with balloon induction on the Saturday, went back Sunday as it hadn’t fallen out. I was 2cm and they asked if I wanted the gel which I said yes. I stayed in to see if it progressed. My partner was allowed to stay but chose to go home to our child. I had the second gel at 11pm and then by 3am I was contracting and by 6am they had me in the labour suite. Everything progressed so well but after my epidural my contractions started fading so they have me the hormone drip which did the job and that afternoon my lb arrived!
