Bones...

As we age, we become more susceptible to certain conditions and ailments. There are a load of things we can do to help prevent many of them, not *only* heading off to the doctor for a prescription, but by adjustments to our lifestyle. For instance, our bone health... Cutting down/out alcohol, stopping smoking, increasing weight bearing exercise, adjusting our diet, are just some of the things that can help. That said, one of the benefits of using Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is that it can give additional protection against loss of bone density, which can come about as a result of reduced oestrogen levels through menopause. According to studies, approximately one in two women over age 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis. Those broken bones as we age can have a big impact on our quality of life, and our future health and longevity. HRT can help, but it isn’t a magic wand! Combining it with other approaches is the most effective way to prevent osteoporosis and stay stronger and healthier through menopause and beyond! 😊💗

Unfortunately not all are able to take hrt. So other things you can do are taking calcium and vitamin D. Plus strength training and "surprising" your bones like jumping down the last stair (if you're able, please be careful!)

@Becki - yep 😊 As the post says, there are loads of non-hormonal things that can help too. Our factsheet library and handbooks also give details of those 😊❤️
